Cerebral Sounds

About Me

Born and bred in Melbourne my passion for music has been combined with dancing since the age of six both here in Australia and Europe. I sacrificed thirteen years for a career in classical ballet but after injuring myself several times, I decided to experience another creative avenue.Along side sound, djing has always intrigued me. I used to stand at the console watching the djs' hands wondering what it all meant. While a punter in the club scene I started collecting records and playing them on my Mum's old turntable. In 2005 I purchased my own set-up, with a LOT of practice to follow, I began to understand the art of mixing records.Prior to djing I was training and working as a ballet dancer in Munich, Germany for almost two years. From this I draw parallels with the sounds in the music I used to dance and choreograph to (especially the contemporary styles) with the music I play now, which I like to call: stripped (or sometimes slamming) techno rhythms with a mixture of dub techno and a deeper house sound all within the electronic music realm. I love african percussion (bongos, congas, soft percussion), cerebral, hypnotic, dulled, soft pad kick, ambient, acid, chanting, dark and rolling sounds. I also think dancing has ingrained rhythm into me, you learn to feel the music, become the music, also structure, flow, journey and suspense! Not to mention, like dancing, I now eat, sleep and breath music! Hard work may get you no where if you don't know anyone but regardless of this I have never stopped at the half way mark!Europe's great appreciation for the arts has also been a major influence on my music and discovering electronic producers/dj's such as Luciano, Mathias Kaden, Deadbeat, Monolake, Villalobos, Hawtin, Butane, Maurizio, Jeff Mills, Regis, Female, Surgeon, Steve Bug and Dan Bell (just to name a few). Now as I head into production I look forward to refining sounds and creating what is me! 20/06/07 updated 23/01/08It's very easy to become caught up in life's petty matters and react accordingly. Then in certain moments comes a sense of detachment and realization. In your mind you sit back and watch yourself and maybe the rest of the world. Some may shake their heads, others smile...or cry.Perception and time changes and sound becomes more apparent. You then realize you were just moved by one of the most beautiful and powerful things in the world............Music(Michelle V 4/12/07)
