LA MEMORIA VIDEO OFICIAL DEPEDROAfter travelling for more than 20 hours I dive into a bar in Tucson, where I meet Amparo, Kaki Arkazrazo (her producer) and Joey. I manage to get over the jet lag with some beers and this cheerful company. Amparo is just about to finish her record with Calexico, which shall be released in 2009, no longer by the name of “Amparanoia” but as a solo artist. The next day, still a bit dizzy, I play some guitars for her record before they leave. I am now left on my own with Joey and 7 days for recording and 8 for mixing this little creature called DEPEDRO. DEPEDRO was a really intense recording. 10 hours a day, Joey was flying around, letting all his art out, and always taking care of me, while doing all kinds of overdubs. What an artistic capability!! John bringing in his own magic with the drum sticks, (there..s no one in the world like him) .Joey and Jonh did most of the recordings at the first take. Jacob in the meanwhile dresses the songs a bit more with that enormous and cool sound of his trumpet. The wind section does a fantastic job with Jeff, Eric, and Marco (astounding baritone sax solo!!). All of it is directed by Chris, the guy with the biggest patience and predisposition that I ever met… and what an appetite!When we finished the recordings, Craig came into the scene. I..m such a fan of his work mixing and as the astounding producer he is! He..s done Calexico,Giant Sand , Neko case, Devotchka ,The Sadies and so on… Mixing the album was such a pleasure for the ears!! Listening how Craig made the songs grow and develop more and more. It looked like in Wavelab, imagination is not tied by any technical or human limitations. The studio is a place for magic, just the way you imagine one when you are starting: full of instruments hanging from the walls , all of them tuned and ready to play, millions of gadgets, effects, guitars, drums... Most of the studios I..ve been in, have the instruments as if it was a hospital: “do not touch please”, and this one was the total contrary: all is for creation.The last day of the mixing, I was invited to play with Calexico in a concert with the Mariachi Luz de Luna in Reid Park, Tucson. A great end for this amazing experience…=============================================== ==== DEPEDRO is the musical Project of Jairo Zavala, singer and guitar player with a long carrer behind him as a session musician. He is front man and foundation member of the rock band VACAZUL, with 5 published records and of 3000 HOMBRES, a blues band with 3 published records. He now starts DEPEDRO, his most personal project. A mixture of latin, border fusion, folk, african music, reggae and blues. The lyrics talk to us directly, making us think about what..s going on in the world and inviting us at the same time, to look into ourselves. His singing and playing brings up all type emotions and lots of magic.------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------- Después de veintitantas horas de viaje , en un bar de Tucson ,me recibe Amparito y Kaki Arkazrazo(su productor) y nuestro amigo, en una mesa de al lado está Joey con unos amigos ,como en casa ,unas cervezas y a pasar el jetlag, Amparo está terminando su grabación con los Calexico que saldrá a la luz en 2008 ya como solista sin el nombre de Amparanoia, al día siguiente un poco mareado me da tiempo a hacer una colaboración en su disco y me dejan solo frente a 14 dias de los que se usan 7 para grabar y 8 para mezclar este retoño que se llama DEPEDRO . Fué una grabación muy intensa , 10 horas de estudio diarias , Joey revoloteando ,desparramando su arte, cuidando de mí y haciendo todo tipo de overdabs , que capacidad musical !!! , Jonh aportando su magia a las baquetas , no hay nadie en el mundo como él , casi todo son primeras tomas , Jacob a la trompeta , su enorme pero cool sonido empieza a decorar las canciones , la sección de metales con Jeff ,Marco ( hizo un solo de baritono antológico) , y Eric hacen un trabajo explendido .Todo esto guiado por Chris , el tipo con más paciencia y predisposición que he conocido y con gran apetito ! Cuando terminamos los recordings apareció Craig , el mezclador y pedazo de productor , soy un fan de su trabajo , Calexico , Giant Sand , Neko case, Devotchka ,The Sadies , etc...La mezcla fué un disfrute , los temas no paraban de crecer y desarrollarse bajo la manos de Craig . En Wavelab parece que la imaginación no está atada por imposibilidades técnicas ni humanas ,el estudio es un lugar con magia , en primer lugar, es como te imaginas que es un estudio cuando empiezas , lleno de instrumentos decorando las paredes listos para usarse , y miles de cachivaches , posters , guitarras , efectos , percusiones, con aspecto de decir úsame... no como un hospital , que es como son la mayoria de estudios en los que he estado, realmente es un elemento más al servicio de la creación. El último dia de mezcla , Calexico me invitó a tocar con ellos , un concierto junto a los Mariachi luz de luna en el Reid Park de Tucson , un colofón de lujo para esta maravillosa experiencia .DEPEDRO es el proyecto musical de JAIRO ZAVALA, cantante y guitarrista con larga trayectoria como musico de sesion ,y forma parte como fundador de la banda de rock VACAZUL, con 5 discos editados, la banda de musica negra 3000 HOMBRES, con 4 discos editados y ahora plantea su proyecto mas personal en DEPEDRO.La musica que hace DEPEDRO bebe de las fuentes de la musica de raiz latina, mestiza ,fronteriza, canalla , la cancion de autor, la rumba, el son, la musica africana ,el reggae, el blues , la salsa .... sus letras nos hablan directamente, hacen que reflexionemos sobre lo que pasa en el mundo, en nuestro interior y a nuestro alrededor, en sus interpretaciones hay sentimientos, emocion y mucha magia..CONTACTO Y CONTRATACION JAVI VACAS +0034-629130112
