Wade's World Music is a multi faceted music business that has been in existence since 1981 in the Dallas-Ft.Worth, Texas area. Specializing in band management, including bookings, logistics, contracts, communications, routing, equipment rentals and transportation. WWM business owner, Wade Johnson, has been involved in the music business as a musician (drums/vocals/guitar/keyboards/songwriter) since 1965. Signed as a Staff Songwriter by the legendary Soul & R&B songwriter and producer, Dan Penn, for his Beautiful Sounds Recording Studio (Memphis, TN.) in 1969, Wade was taught firsthand by Penn how to engineer and produce recordings, as well as the art of song craftmanship. Wade has performed and toured nationally with multiple bands such as The Party Crashers, 4 Way Street, The Shades, Rio, Gunpoint, High Rollar, The Desperado's, The Blucoats, Freedom Street, Hopalong Hurricane, Gypsy Sun and more. Based out of Arlington, Texas, WWM has represnted regional acts, including The Party Crashers, 4 Way Street, The Shades, The Project, Crawfish, Larry & The Bluenotes and The Blucoats and is available for drum/sub gigs. Currently, Wade is actively playing drums/vocals for 4 WAY STREET (www.4waystreet.vze.com), THE PARTY CRASHERS (www.thepartycrashers.com) and THE EXPLODING CHIHUAHUA'S (www.exchi.vze.com). All three bands are based out of Arlington, Texas.
I began playing the drum set around 1965, when I purchased my first set of Ludwig Super Classic Black Oyster Pearl drums. It was the same set that my hero, Ringo Starr, played, so that was more than good enough for me. Prior to that I had played in my junior high orchestra in the percussion section, but when I saw The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show in February of 1964, my life changed and I've been playing music in bands ever since. In 1965, while living in Thousand Oaks, California, I formed my first rock band called The Blucoats. The band won several Battle Of The Bands and had 2 record deals and producers. It was 1966 when I learned how to play guitar while I was laid up from a car accident. I began writing my own songs and we eventually recorded them in a Hollywood recording studio that Phil Spector used to record his many number one hits. During this time (65-69) Tandem Almer ("Along Comes Mary") and Eddie Hodges ("I'm Gonna Knock On Your Door") drove out in a limo to audition us for a national act they were forming from different parts of the country. They asked Larry Caird (the lead singer) and I to go for a drive after hearing us, and offered us the opportunity as possible members of the national act being formed. We declined, because we weren't going anywhere without our friends (other band members). No way Jose'. We heard, later on, that band may have been The Monkees. To this day, we remain close friends and in 2005 we played for the Thousand Oaks Band Tree Reunion, some 40 years later. In 1969, I moved to Memphis, Tennessee and became the drummer for Freedom Street. While playing a live show, we were approached by the legendary Soul & R&B singer/songwriter/producer, Dan Penn, who requested to hear any original material we might have. Chuck Richardson, (my dear friend and the keyboard player), and I had written several originals for the band, so we played them for him. He liked them enough to invite us to come to his new 16 track recording studio, Beautiful Sounds, on Highland Street in Memphis and play some more we had been writing at the time. We played him about 4-5 songs, each, and he offered us both staff songwriting contracts with his publishing company, Penn-Oldham Music. I was a very green 19 year old living in a musical candy store. I was paid a low monthly wage and moonlighted as the cleaning crew and studio gopher, as well. I lived in that studio day and night for 2 solid years and loved every second of it. Penn taught me how to run the control board and engineer and eventually I became the engineer of all demo's. I engineered the demo of "A Women Left Lonely" by Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham as they wrote it and the tape was sent to Janis Joplin, who liked it enough to record it on her "Pearl" LP. He gave me a key to the studio and said I could record anything and anybody anytime nobody else was using it. I spent many a long night running back and forth from the board into the studio and back, from one instrument to the next, recording myself and my originals. He didn't ask much, just that we check into one of the writing rooms, and try and write hit songs. Well, that hit never happened for me, but in those two years I worked alongside incredible musicians like Booker T & The MG's, Steve Cropper, Freddie King, Leon Russell, Joe Cocker & The Mad Dog's & Englishmen tour, B.J. Thomas, George Klien (legendary Memphis DJ), Carol Lawrence, Spooner Oldham, Carl Wilson, Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar of The Beach Boys, Rusty Kershaw, Don Nix, The Memphis Horns, Alex Chilton (I auditioned on drums for a group with him after he left The Boxtops and got the gig but went back to L.A. because I missed my friends and family so much. That band eventually became Big Star), Jim Dickinson, The Bar-Kay's, Willie Mitchell, Jerry Butler and a ton of other great musicians and recording artists. From there I moved back to California for several years, playing in local bands for beer at parties. In 1975 I was lured to Dallas, Texas by my friend from Memphis, Chuck Richardson, and we briefly formed a rock band together. That band folded after about 6 months and then I joined a rock solid southern rock band called Gunpoint. We played a lot of ZZ Top, Allman Brothers Band type rock and toured throughout Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma and Arkansas through 1978. I loved that band. I still play in several bands with the Gunpoint bass player, Steve Locke, and Jerry Don Branch currently plays with The Stratoblasters out of Dallas. From there I joined a house band in Ft. Worth called The Desperados, which lasted about 6 months to a year and mostly played The Hungry I on Lancaster. Then I was recruited to play drums for another kick ass rock band, Rio, from Ft. Worth. We recorded several originals with the legendary engineer, Buford Jones, in Dallas that turned out great, and the guitarist, Buddy Whittington, now plays with John Mayhal's Blues Breakers. Next was an incredible and original 3 piece band called The Shades with brothers Mike and Mark Brown. That band had the best original songs of any band I've ever played in, and Mark was in another dimension on guitar. The Shades ran from about 1981-83 for me. Shortly after, I joined the Ft. Worth touring band, The Pengwins, that I toured Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi with and in 1986 I was inducted into the Buddy Magazine Texas Drum Tornado Hall Of Fame, which is a coveted award around these parts. I share it with a ton of killer Texas musicians like Eric Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Vaughn, ZZ Top, Bugs Henderson and Willie Nelson. After The Shades I joined a party rock cover band called The Party Crashers, in 1986, which won the Best Party Band award form both the Ft. Worth Star- Telegram and FW Weekly Magazine readers two different years. The Party Crashers were also named as one of the Best Wedding Bands by the publishers of "Planning A wedding in Dallas-Ft.Worth." I still am active, playing drums and singing/managing, for The Party Crashers. During that time, I helped form The Beatles tribute band, Me & My Monkey, with bassist, Kyle Creel. After my brief stay with M&MM, I joined the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young tribute band, 4 Way Street and I am still active playing drums and singing with them as well. There is even a second band, with the same members that play a variety of killer classic rock, called The Exploding Chihuahua's. I have maintained writing songs and becoming better at it as I have aged. I have quite a few songs that I believe have something special to offer to a variety of artists out there. That is my main goal at the moment. Finish writing at least a CD worth of my originals, record them with some of my very talented musicain buddies, and shop the CD around, not so much as an artist, but for the songs. From this humble MySpace website, that is what I hope to soon achieve.
