.. Blues and jazz have always driven my music, but I was greatly influenced by folk, and rock and roll. I was born in Oregon but have spent the last thirty years in Texas. I am a thoroughly transplanted Texan. I spent a couple of years playing in Calafornia in the height of the hippie era so that influence is there also. I was living in Haight Ashbery at the very beginning so I guess I was one of the original hippies, but we musicians didn’t claim that label. We insisted that musicians were musicians and hippies were hippies.I will admit that we looked about the same.
In Texas saddled with the nickname Little Paul I played many years in an infamous club known as The Cellar. This was the stomping ground of a variety of musicians some who are now well know. This group of clubs ..n Ft Worth, Dallas, and Houston was the early home of Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, and the one time jamming place of the young ZZ Top.. Rocky Hill the brother of Dusty, Bugs Henderson, John Nitzinger, Jimmy Vaughn, Johnny Winter, Ray Sharp; and Shawn Philips, just to name a few, worked and sat in there. Working there, jamming and playing with these musicians was a tremendous influence on my music. Another remarkable influence was the late Arturâ€Tudy†Taddy a monster musician who was the absolute best bass and drum player I have ever known. We played together with Rock-a-Billy legend Johnny Carroll at the Cellar when we were both teenagers. He remained a good friend until he passed. I miss him each and every day. I was also profoundly influenced by the late great blues man Robert Ealey. I sat in with him often at his club the “Bluebird.†in the 70s. This was the club that featured and created many great blues groups. The Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Juke Jumpers, Johnny Red and the Roosters, Little Whisper and the Rumors, Double Trouble, all of them fantastic backup for the incomparable Robert Ealey. Robert was always Robert and always your friend no matter how famous he got. If you put his name on the net he does come up.
My outside ..nfluences were The Beatles, Rolling Stones BB King, Freddie King, Bobby Bland and others too numerous to mention, I have very eclectic taste in music and listen to everything from jazz to classical and all points ..n between. I am a fan of a lot of the new music but .. always come back to the blues WWW.PAULSEVY.COM YOU CAN DOWNLOAD MY MUSIC FREE ON MY SITE ENJOY
