Frederic Gervais

I was born 29-05-1978 in the Netherlands and grew up in a very musical family I started playing the Piano at the age of 8 studying classical music with my grandfather who at that time was an accomplished piano and organ player. My father being an established and working guitar player and teacher, had me make an early acquaintance with Jazz and Soul music. Seeing my father perform with his band playing songs from the likes of Al Jarreau and Chacka Khan made me fall in love with that music and especially how the bass made all of my favorite music groove.

After nagging my parents for over year I got my first Bassguitar. Studying for hours per day I started performing in high school bands, playing my first gig at the schools yearly contest, the songs were “soul with a capitol S” and “Funk the dump stuff” by Tower of Power. At 16 I and my best mate Norman Soares formed our first serious band named “Yo Momma” which was heavily inspired by Funkadelic and the Chillie Peppers. The band caused quite a stir around our side of town and had me playing small and bigger venues throughout the Netherlands warming up for big national names more than once a week.

Getting more serious per year I soon entered the Conservatory of Amsterdam were I studied Jazz music with some of Holland’s finest bass players and teachers.

Recently I started a production studio with my friends Norman Soares and Duncan Meulema which mainly produces dance music. This new venture already let into several successes and last years greatest achievement the production of the Album for international DJ Johan Gielen. I also organized the live setup for the 2006 edition of Trance-Energy with Johan Gielen performing before 30.000 people.
