..The sails of the mill, big skies and the endless landscapes where nature roamed free. These form the background of Stef White..s formative years, which have formed him as a person and as an artist: a singer/songwriter who is looking for the delicate balance between nature and the ever advancing culture.I follow my own feelings and try to define these more clearly. I use previous experiences and try to discover which direction I have to take. I want to get closer to my roots and find out how everyday life affects the lives of ordinary people. His latest songs are about the influence of the modern world on country life, the world where he was raised and which is under constant threat. But what will the kids of today remember, if soon all of our land and history will
be gone? Stef asks in his song ¨Mill Sails Turning¨.As an artist he was inspired by Elmore James, Hank Williams, Willy Nelson and Steve Earle. When he was 20 he formed a country rock band, which played songs by a.o The Band and Gram Parsons and around that time he started to write down thoughts that crossed his mind. He later used these as the basis of his first songs.About 7 years ago he met Kersten de Ligny, a kindred soul. They started to perfrom as an acoustic duo and wrote prose and poetry, which were later turned into songs. The also specialized in harmonies. Their songs are about human relations and the profound feelings which stem from these encounters. They frequently performed in clubs, theatres and festivals in the Benelux, Germany and the UK. In 2006 they released a CD for the Inbetweens Records label. Their CD was favourably received and led to many performances and invitations to play as an opening act for a.o Chris Knight. At the moment Stef is busy writing songs and he will release a CD shortly. Although Stef and Kersten still perform together, Stef has turned a different corner. Life is like a Robert Frost poem: two diverging roads, one well travelled and worn out , the other less travelled and full of promise. For me the choice is clear, I will always choose the road less travelled, the road which holds many secrets and which will lead to new adventures.
