A: The explosion of afro-beat, electronic texture, heavy groove, and polyrhythmic layers created by the dynamic 8-piece group Mifuné.
Formed as a composers collective in 2004, Mifune started with a mission: Create great original music that is rewarding on multiple levels for both the group and the listeners. Not to just "play" the music, but extract the music from the soul and send it to the mind.
Upon listening, one hears shades of the funk laden groove of afro-beat founder Fela Kuti, the electro-infused sexiness of Brazilian Girls (a group that mifune opened for during a sold out performance) and the catchy layering style of Stereolab (a group that Mifune was chosen to honor on the internationally released tribute "the politics of photosynthesis".)
In a little over a year since their 2005 live debut, Mifune has captured the attention of both local and regional fans and media alike. In May 2006 Mifune conceived of and played host to Afro-Fest 2006. The very successful event marked the first time that a festival dedicated to Afro-Beat and world rhythms was held in the Cleveland area.
In Oct 2006 Mifune's debut album "afro-electronique" was released to a very expectant and ever-growing fan base. Mifune's travels to the east coast, south and beyond in support of the album have spread the word even further and show that music fans from across the board can find an element of Mifune that stirs their soul.
2007 has seen the group continue to grow in many ways. In early 07' the group was named best world/ethnic group in the cleveland FreeTimes music awards. And in March they hosted the sell out follow up to the 2006 afrofest. Currently in the studio working on their second effort, Mifune still shows no sign of slowing down as regional tour dates for 08' keep stacking up.check out this video of us playing at the all go signs evet this summer.Check out our EPK
