Our Mission
At Zon, our goal is to provide players with the best performing, most innovative instruments of the highest quality, materials, and craftsmanship—basses of exceptional tone and performance, equally at home in the studio as they are on the road. Each bass we make is crafted by artisans who love their work, who are passionate about bass, and who build every instrument as if it were for their very own playing. Our attention to detail and desire for perfection border on compulsion.
A Zon bass is all about synergy, in how the various materials and components work, blend, and complement each other to create a rich, musical-sounding instrument. To our ears, every component interacts: the wood, finish, hardware, etc.
Rather than offer an instrument from an a la carte menu, or assemble a random menagerie of off-the-shelf parts, we carefully select and match components, most of which are custom made for us. The result is a bass with a tone that is balanced and unique to that model. We think it makes more sense for a player to be able to choose from a variety of specially voiced models, selecting one with a particular tone that suits his or her musical and/or playing style, rather than adapting their musical or playing style to some randomly voiced instrument.
Your sound all starts with the instrument and works up the chain from there. If you have a bass with a poor-quality sound, all the best amplification in the world won’t help you. Simply stated, Zon basses are designed to be instruments built for a lifetime. These are basses that will grow with you and your playing ability. A craftsman is only as good as his/her tools, and a Zon bass will allow you to become a better player, no matter what your playing level.
As a bassist myself, I know the importance of a well-made instrument. After receiving multiple checks for quality throughout the production process, I personally inspect each and every bass before it leaves our facility. My name is on it, and I’m proud of our work. I wouldn’t expect other players to accept anything less than I’d want—that is, the most beautiful, functional, great-sounding, and above all playable instrument possible.
Sincerely,
Joe Zon
