If you have to ask... the answer is no

About Me

Tinkerer, fixer, taker-aparter. (If it ain't broke, make it better.) Putter-back-togetherer. I remember everything, even if I don't remember why I know it, which, alas, happens with annoying frequency. I'm woefully uptight about some things and completely uninhibited about others. I like people strong and assertive, and dislike doormats and abusers and arrogance.

I'm opinionated, sharp-tongued and not retiring or tame. I don't placate egos for long or suffer whining and self-pity, but will be the first to show up with homemade soup for the sniffles or a shoulder to cry on when it matters. I take in stray cats, dogs and sea urchins, but have broken myself of the habit of taking in stray men, even delicious 6'4” brunettes with green eyes. (Well... mostly.)

I like music in the car and silence at home. I'm allergic to onions and always wear glasses, although one has nothing to do with the other as far as I can tell. Occasionally, yet shockingly, I just don't have an opinion on the subject.

My Interests

Speyside's finest, gardening, cooking, my reef aquarium, learning to mountain bike, kayaking, genealogy, medieval history, reading, occasionally playing the fiddle, learning obscure and unimportant things that make people wonder how the hell I know that, and really, really good food, provided, of course, that it doesn't have onions in it.

I'd like to meet:

Recyclers, bicyclers and other environmental deviants. The opinionated and curious. Geeks, nerds and dweebs. Gourmands who don't skimp on the butter, beer or brioche because 'tis better to pay for it later in sit-ups than to only eat bean sprouts and sauce-less chicken. And people who eat bean sprouts.

Music:

Bluegrass, folk, classic and progressive country, hard rock, 80's, alternative, blues, classical... almost anything but whiny "Top-40," monotonous and repetitive soft pop or "new country." Sirius XM satellite radio rocks!

Movies:

Uh, thanks, but I'll pass.

Television:

Okay, I finally bought one. Is everyone happy now?

Books:

Asimov, Atwood, Dumas, Gaiman, Heinlein, Herbert, Kaufman, Kay, Mallory, Marlow, Martin, Penman, Pratchett, Rice, Shakespeare, Tolkien, Tepper, and whatever else looks good on the shelf at the bookstore.

Heroes:

My geriatric cat. Despite being gimpy, she's sleeps all day, gets me up in the morning to feed her, demands that I play with her or pet her whenever she wants, and totally runs my life.Damn, I want to be my cat.

My Blog

I know you won't believe this, but...

...after 18+ years in California (ack!), I'm calling it quits. It's not that I don't like California, because I do.  18 years ago, it was important to me to get away from where I grew up.  Si...

Overheard in a bar

So there I am, bellied up to the bar waiting for the bartender, when I hear this guy 2 seats down say to his buddy (who's next to me), "That one is kind of hot." "Kind of hot?"  What am I, a m...
