YOUTH AGAINST POVERTY

upstate, new york

Youth Against Poverty is a organization focused on spreading awareness of child poverty. We hope that the younger generation will understand the need of eradicating child poverty globally and do their part in the fight to end it.

Many teens have preconceived thoughts of people in poverty and how charities use their money for them - "They are all drug addicts", "They had a choice", "The money doesn't go to them, "Who cares, it's not me". Our goal is to change those thoughts and ideas by educating them about what is really happening. They will understand exactly how children in poverty are living and what they - as young people can do about it.

The two most common definitions of poverty currently in use are:

Relative Poverty. Relative poverty is defined in relation to the standards of living in a society at a particular time. People live in poverty when they are denied an income sufficient for their material needs and when these circumstances exclude them from taking part in activities which are an accepted part of daily life in that society.

Absolute Poverty. Absolute poverty refers to the level of resources needed to sustain physical survival. People are poor if they cannot feed clothe or house themselves and their dependants. It is based on a person's biological needs. This is the most common way in which people visualise poverty.
