DAMA-WHA. Música de raigambre Andina y Suramericana fusionada con elementos modernos y contemporáneos. El grupo cultural DAMA-WHA, nace en la ciudad de Pasto, departamento de Nariño el 9 de noviembre de 1.988, comienza su actividad realizando presentaciones a nivel local en diferentes lugares de la ciudad, dándose a conocer en el ámbito musical del medio.Por la gran acogida del grupo, debido a la versatilidad para ejecutar los instrumentos y destacar en gran amplitud la música autóctona y latinoamericana, participa a nivel nacional e internacionales diferentes encuentros y festivales.La trayectoria de DAMA-WHA presenta decenas de actuaciones en las que incluyen, una gira por Europa en países como: Suiza (Liechtenstein), Alemania y también en el hermano país del Ecuador.El grupo ha sido especialmente conocido en el Valle y en la zona del Eje Cafetero a partir de su triunfo en 1.995 como ganador absoluto del XXI Festival de Música Andina Mono Núñez, que se realiza cada año en Ginebra – Valle.En agosto de 1.997 fueron finalistas como grupo instrumental en el VII Festival del Pasillo “Hermanos Hernández” de Aguadas – Caldas. Quince días antes obtuvieron dos grandes reconocimientos: En el XI Festival de Intérpretes de Música Colombiana, organizado por Cootrafa, en Hatoviejo, en Bello – Antioquia. Mejor obra inédita con su tema “Elegía Para un Angel” y segundo lugar entre todos los concursantes.DAMA-WHA Cuenta con tres grabaciones propias: “Canto a la Madre Tierra” – 1.990. Estudios TONSPUR BUS – Suiza. “Canto de Llamas” – 1.992. Estudios PROSONIDO – Quito – Ecuador. “Volviendo a la Vida” – 1.996. Estudios PARANOVA – Cali – Colombia. Y en la actualidad DAMA-WHA se encuentra terminando su ultima producción llamada ME URGE UN PAIS. La producción se la esta trabajando en JC SOUD VIDEO STUDIO Sandoná (Nariño)DAMA WHA BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BAND: The cultural group Dama-Wha was born en the city of Pasto , department of Nariño on the 9th of November 1988, it commenced it’s activities playing on a local level at various venues throughout the city, giving itself a chance to become familiar with the musical ambiance. The great approval of the band, is due to the versatility in playing the instruments and to underline the great amplitude of native and Latin American music. Participating on a national and international level in different gatherings and festivals. Its track record it can present docens of performances of witch includes a European tour in countries such as Switzerland ( Liechtenstein ), Germany , and our sister country Ecuador . The group has been specially known throughout the Valle region and the region of Eje Cafetero since its triumph in 1995 as the absolute winner of the XXI Mono Nuñez festival of Andean music, witch is repeated every year in Ginebra-Valle. In August 1997 the group was finalists as an instrumental group in the VII “Hermanos Hernandez ”pasillo festival, Aguadas Caldas. 15 days before that the group received two big recognitions. Firstly in the XI festival of interpretation of Colombian music, organized by Cootrafa, in Hatoviejo, in Bello- Anti. In the category ” Best own composition” with the song “Elegia para un angelI” and was voted number two in the competition among all the enteries. In it’s strong desire to express a way to be, and perceive the world. To unify the concept from a Latin American perspective. The music of Dama.Wha is an interesting exploration of the profound roots of our Latin American identity. Not in a way to hide our burrier them, but to air them and integrate them in the bigger universal artistic movement. The group recognizes the great fact that in music, as in all aspects of our culture, we must recognize an understand ourselves, in order to communicate and understand the rest of the world. In the genre called “fusion” they integrate the reflexions and questioning in order or give the reasons to be Dama-Wha. It’s here where they investigate sounds and rhythmic transitions and they adventure to the vanguard in roots. In Cantos al Galeras, the composition witch gave the group the grand prize Mono Nuñez in 1995, the original melodies don’t interfere with the anchoring in traditional Colombian rhythms, with it’s indubitable Mestiza decent. A composition called “volviendo a la vida” witch has as well as pop and rock, Currulao., and swings in happy harmony with jazz drums and a quena incaica, a charango and an electric bass. The lines witch define the musical cultures of diverse origins are not separately, in contrary, history has shown that they always end up playing and mixing themselves. What will be the final destiny of these apertures, from the native to the universal? Only time will tell, in the long run the final result is not important.
