BALLPOINT are a band who have been kicking big goals in Tassie over the past few years. With the current line up getting together in early 2004, BALLPOINT has released two EP’s and has a debut album, “Get Loose!†ready to drop. Winners of the 2008 ’Best Tasmanian Hardcore/Punk band’ award, BALLPOINT sport a sound that steers well away from the onslaught of emo/screamo bands, incorporating the speed and energy of modern punk rock with the riffs and rock moves of classic rock and roll!
After (almost) going through more vocalists than Spinal Tap did drummers, BALLPOINT finally found some solid ground in their recruitment of guitarist and vocalist Craig Aorangi in 2004. That year also saw BALLPOINT invited to headline the highly successful state-wide “Red Herring Rock n Roll Tour†and the Disconnect records “Summer of Punk Tourâ€, and also saw the long awaited independent release of their debut EP. The “Well Oiled Machine†EP - described as “Bloody Good†by Triple Js Lindsay the doctor McDougall - was extremely well received by fans and critics alike, and scored national airplay on Triple J as well as high rotation placement on Tasmania’s Edge Fm.
In December 2005 BALLPOINT unleashed their sophomore E.P “Blood, Sweat and Beers,†which was released through Tasmanian punk label Disconnect Records. Blood, Sweat and Beers - an iconic ode to the great liquid amber - scored exceptionally high ratings in a number of reviews, was voted ’Best Tasmanian CD Release 2006’ in Tasmania’s Amplified awards, and has been broadcasted throughout the nation via Triple J’s Short Fast and Loud and Home and Hosed programs. Triple J dug the boys so much that BALLPOINT were selected to join the prestigious group of ’Triple J Next Crop’ artists for Australian Music Month 2006.
Over the years, BALLPOINT has played support for some huge acts including US punk legends NOFX, No Use For A Name, and Lagwagon, and also some of the countries most renown rock acts such as Frenzal Rhomb, Bodyjar, Shihad, Kisschasy, Trial Kennedy, Mach Pelican, One Dollar Short, Antiskeptic, Gerling, The Spazzys, In The Grey and Blueline Medic, as well as the Falls Festival in Lorne and Gone South Festivals. BALLPOINT also gave their sound to local surf chain Red Herring for their “Red TV†campagin, and has been featured in a number of Surf and Skate movies, and have recently been picked up by Electric Clothing in a merchandise endorsement.
The boys have just inked an exciting new deal to release their debut full length, “Get Looseâ€, with Japanese punk rock label INYAFACE who have released some super famous bands like Frenzal Rhomb, The Falcon, Randy, and Kisschasy. Plans for an Aussie release through Disconnect records are well underway, and the New Year will bring a barrage of shows in support of the new release.
