Daddys Little Girl’s humble origins can be traced back to an un-assuming classroom in the outer suburbs of Melbourne .There, guitarist Jarse and original drummer Regan Wood first discovered they were onto something big, when songs would begin to take shape, and were played long after bells had rung and classes began. Today, that same drive and passion continues to echo throughout the bands history. Regan left the band in November, 2008 to pursue a career in film-making and directing. The line-up is fronted by the scintillating Cynthia Gallie on vocals. Cynthia, the avid performer, has spent many years performing musical theatre and receiving classical training to deliver a show that’s borne not only of amazing vocal talent, from growling lows to piercing highs, but also strong performance and a liberal sprinkling of fun for good measure. She’s backed by the renowned Tanya Cavanagh on the skins – similarly driven by strong performance orientation, Tanya spent 3 years touring with Circus Oz, before touring with and supporting many bands both nationally and internationally, such as The Divinyls, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Spencer P Jones and touring with her own bands Mother, Girl Mansion and Blush.Joel Vermaas brings an unusual flavour to the low end, with a background born similarly in performance (playing his first show to several thousand people at the tender age of 8), but with roots from big-band numbers through to classical jazz, blues and rock; now with distinct over-tones of funk, rock and metal to spice things up.Jarse completes the lineup as the sole surviving member. Jarse is an enigma within himself, a curious mix of drive and passion for his craft, with the classic come-as-it-goes laid-back nature of a muso. Jarse’s playing is born of an eclectic collection – an avid fan of Elvis and Kurt Cobain alike, his riffs speak for themselves in bringing this curious mix of musicians together to create something reminiscent of Skunk Anansie, early No Doubt and the Baby Animals. The band has led a decorated career thus far – with over 100 shows around Victoria , including opening for Grinspoon, The Hoodoo Gurus, The Screaming Jets and Thirsty Merc. The band has won several Battles, and is poised for an Australian tour in July and a larger Asian tour in January of next year. This definitely remains one to watch, and if you get a chance – sit back and enjoy the ride. Firebreathing, stage jumps, costume changes, choreography, stops and numerous visual spectaculars abound to create a show which needs to be seen live to truly appreciate.
