Hi,My name is Roshan Wijetunge, a.k.a. Tosh to those of you who don't like all those syllables or don't speak Sri Lankan. I'm a bassist, acoustic and electric, I've been playing the low notes for over 10 years now, although I studied and worked as a mechanical engineer for a good while before taking the plunge and going full-time muso. For me it really began back in my days as a London teenager, aspiring to the ever changing musical waves that washed over me; hip hop, house, soul, indie, psychadelic, rock, reggae, ragga, trance, ambient, you name it... Since then I've slowly worked my way through various instruments, musical styles and careers and places to end up here, an eclectic bassist living and playing in the Bath / Bristol area.
I do a lot of jazz playing these days, but I love a wide variety of music and would never want to be limited or pigeonholed into any one style. Over the years I've been involved in all sorts: latin, samba, funk, reggae, rock, circus music, folk, country, african, indie, d'n'b, electronica. I love the variety and it's given me the opportunity to perform, compose and record with some fantastic groups and individuals.
Musically I'm open to most things and I'm also a bit of a geek at heart so being able to do something creative with computers, samplers and synths is a source of joy (must be the engineer in me), you can hear some of this work on this page.
I've recently moved back after a couple of years on and off in Barcelona, which I miss dearly but the music scene here offers so much more opportunity. I'm still establishing myself but gig regularly with a whole host of local jazzers, as well as being involved in projects like The Dale Hambridge Trio and The Warpspeed Orchestra. I've also started working with the great jazz and soul singer Joan Davis. There's plenty more to come so watch this space!!.....
