SayPlaySway Reviews
Here’s an EP that’s just come out – Say Play Sway, and it’s good. If you like your music unfussy, poppy and jaunty, with a big dash of Tori Amos and slightly skewed but top-notch tunes then this should be up your street. It’s breezy, highly infectious stuff. - The Daily GrowlIf you like folk with a dash of fun, which isn’t scared to flirt fearlessly with pop melodies, children’s toys and some domineering piano, then this is definitely right up your street. The title track has all of the above in abundance, tied together by Sophie Nelson’s effortlessly expressive vocals. Even the coldest of hearts could listen to her all day and hit the sack with a warm glow. The Fugitive MotelManchester' Red Deer Club have gone and snapped up Sophie's Pigeons, a local act who may do very well for themselves, because they sure sound very now-ish. You can hear traces of fellow 'big personality' girl popsters like Kate Nash or Florence And The Machine in here, with some nice, elaborate instrumentation thrown in, largely supplied from jaunty piano riffs that border on Bavarian bar-room soundtracks. The Manchester venue name-checking 'Stars and Garters' is a song that complains about people with big fringes, and bands who sing in accents not their own, all the while borrowing the vocal tics of Patti Smith. - BoomkatWhats All The Fuss About???
SoPhIeS pIgEoNs take you on a delightful melodic journey, showing fleeting glimpes of Fiona Apple and Tori Amos with a charm of their own. - Flesh Tones, ManchesterSophies Pigeons have been performing around the UK for just over a year after forming in the late summer of 2006. The Manchester based band have stirred up a commotion of excitement within the North West Folk scene, breaking conventions and bringing a pop vibe to an ever popular scene.
The ‘almost’ all girl band have quickly launched onto the global arts festival, that is Ladyfest and have performed at a number of the female ran Ladyfests around the country in the past 12 months.
Gauche, exuberant and not afraid to look silly in the name of art, her band, Sophie's Pigeons, seem perfectly poised to inject some needed flamboyance to a Manc indie scene weighed down with an acceptance of all things humdrum.Manchester Evening News
Armed with glockenspiel, melodica, harmonium, clarinette , piano, vocals and various childrens toys to create foot stomping rhythms with, Sophies Pigeons have performed a long list of shows in some of the UK’s most prestige underground folk and alternative ciruits.
An impeccable performace by a band that you could see going a long way. - Listen To Manchester
Sophie has a quirkiness underpinning a terrific voice. The songs are strong, and the performance and interaction with the audience spot-on. - Listen to Manchester. Four rather happily deranged individuals hammering pianos who clearly enjoy what they are doing. Their overall madness and enthusiasm rubs off onto the audience and brings the night to a successful conclusion. -
