Matt Springford, The Culture Show, BBC
Gwendoline Lamour is a stunning, sensational feast of sensuality
John Wellington, Managing Editor, Mail on Sunday
Timeless elegance of a bygone age, a feast for the eyes and senses, tantalizing the onlooker with awe inspiring finesse; there is only one Gwendoline Lamour!
Louis Mariette, celebrity hat designer
I also have a brace of degrees and teach and advise on etiquette, period manners and deportment from the 17th century onwards.
As a child I was decanted around an array of stately homes, castles, galleries and museums by my parents, a practice which fuelled my already overactive imagination and fired a lifelong taste for the dressing up box! I was also greatly fond of Hollywood glamour as personified by Bette Davies et al and longed to swish down marble staircases in impossible frocks, which is another foible I have yet to lose.
My shows are inspired by a veritable roll call of beautiful women; from the glamour of history’s most celebrated courtesans, the grace of fan dancing stars Sally Rand and Faith Bacon to the buoyant appeal of that pin-up model extraordinaire Betty Page. Incidentally the name Gwendoline Lamour is a mixture John Willie’s cartoon heroine Gwendoline, Hollywood actress Dorothy Lamour and the happy fact that G. Lamour spells ... glamour!
