A distant relative of Hip/Hop mogul "Missy Elliot" and famed comedian Wanda Skyes, proves evident that entertainment is a family affair. From Jazz, to R&B, to Rock etc... Tony’s music has the potential to reach every age group, most generations, and many denominations. Reaching the “churched” and the “unchurched,” his musical style is breaking down many barriers. He gives credit to God who bestowed the gifts upon him. Not to mention that he is always working to keep his skills sharp in order to present his best to his supporters and fans.Performing is not new to Tony. He recently appeared on the “Daystar” Christian TV network, and “The Warhorse Network” on Channel 55 in Houston. Other performances include “Teen Summit” in Houston, Texas, sponsored by Black Entertainment Television, and Houston Style Magazine’s 15th Anniversary “Thirty under 30” Celebration. Tony is a former guitarist of New Light Christian Center (Bishop I. V. Hillard) in Houston, Texas, and was the East Coast “Catch a Rising Star” contest winner in 2004 sponsored by program director Dale Murray at "Star 94.1 .Mr. Copeland’s first single was released in 2000 entitled, “Life is Worth Living.” His first full CD project entitled, “Thank You Jesus” was released in 2001. The title track, “Thank You Jesus” did well on Christian radio stations throughout the “Bible Belt,” the Carolinas, and southeast Virginia.A native of Virginia Tony has been singing and playing guitar, bass, drums, and piano since the age of one, when his parents bought him his first instruments. He was raised as a performer, beginning with “The Copeland Singers” – his five sisters and two brothers with his father, Floyd Copeland as manager- performing across Virginia, Washington, D. C., and the eastern seaboard. The Copeland Singers performed every Sunday on the early morning live radio show hosted by “The Godfather of Gospel Music,” Bill Boykins. Tony received “on the job training” while playing with a host of gospel greats including Theodore Cross formerly of “Willie Neal and the Gospel Keynotes” from Tyler, Texas. Tony recorded with the “Spiritual Wonders” and toured the United States with “The Peerless Four” of Norfolk, VA. He toured Europe and the United States with America’s first Black Southern Gospel family group, “The Scotts.” In addition to touring with “The Scotts,” from Franklin Virginia, he recorded a live concert with them in Charlotte, North Carolina on the PTL broadcast, which was released on video.Mr Copeland is founder (2001) and director of the music production company Teejaydees Productions. The company recently produced a single "The Rightway" performed by Copeland. Currently in the marketing and distribution phase "we believe that it has hit potential" states Mr. Copeland. Tony Copeland is also owner and director of publishing company/record label, Danay Records and is in the process of releasing a Jazz project in the near future.During a conversation in Europe, Frankie Beverly of “Maze featuring Frankie Beverly,” one of Tony’s mentors and close friend told him, “Remember, whatever you do in the music industry- take your time and complete it.” This is just what Tony Copeland along with Teejaydees Productions are doing. He recognizes that this is his time to do it…”The Right Way.”

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Tony Copeland-Lead Vocal/Guitar, John Hollins-Drums, Tyrus Walker-Keys/Vocals, Will-Keys, Jason-Bass, Kay-Vocals, Tassie-Vocals, Andre-Vocals,
Influences: Tony was influenced at an early age by Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. The story goes like this: Mrs. Copeland, who is a devout Christian, did not allow what was then called "Blues" to be played in the home. However Tony would listen to it every chance that he could. One day he heard a new hit song on the radio by "Maze" entitled "Golden Time of Day". Tony insisted that his mother take a listen. While in tears Tony stated that "Frankie Beverly" stole his vocal and musical sound. How's that for a child. His mother assured him that since Mr. Beverly was a bit older than he (Tony) that it was Tony that sounded like Frankie Beverly.Toto is another Great Band in which helped shape Tony's stlye.Ohh don't mention Marvin Gaye, Commodores, Fat Back, George Duke, George Benson, Prince, Stanley Clarke, the Spiritual Wonders and the Peerless Four to name a few.
Sounds Like: Vocally, Tony has been compared to Marvin Gaye and Frankie Beverly- a smooth sound..."ear candy". His guitar stylings have been compared to Prince, Carlos Santana and Earnie Isley to name a few.
