Uncommon, Handmade Jewelry, Accessories & Wearable Art

About Me

We recently moved from Honolulu, Hawaii to the DC Metro area._______________________________________________________ _____________
Most of my creations are one-of-a-kind and very unique. We hope you find all you are looking for and a little bit you might not have known you needed....
All jewelry is handmade, from unexpected items (bottle caps, guitar picks, toys) as well as gemstones, glass, and great vintage finds.
I like vintage things and things that are a bit worn or "lived in." "Wabi-Sabi" is one of my guiding principles. It's a Japanese term for a kind of beauty that is imperfect, transitory, and incomplete. It is about beauty that is hidden, subtle, and almost invisible at first glance. They are small wonders, and magic spells that open up the secret joys concealed in the passing moments of everyday routine.
I also have a goofy sense of humor. That is why you will find a lot of Creations made from toys and unexpected objects. Its just funny to me to wear recycled toys as earrings or vintage game pieces on a necklace. These things are just spontaneous and natural. We may be too old to play with these toys but we haven't yet outgrown them._______________________________________________________ ______________

My Interests

Rockin' the DIY community and aiding in the handmade revolution. Being an "Antipreneur." Grassroots capitalism bringing you one of a kind wearable art rather than mass-produced, mass-marketed junk seen in every magazine and worn by everyone. DIY craft can change the world! I'm not just trying to sell you my stuff, I'm trying to help change the way people view corporate culture, branding, and consumerism.
Handmade crafty stuff (art with a function) is also very personal (can you say that about what your wearing right now?). It's a wonderful feeling to know the name of the person who created the pants your wearing or the lip balm you use.
AND...
It’s not really just about being crafty....
I believe that creating objects that have meaning or convey ideas (or ideals) is an undertaking we should all feel qualified to partake in. I think that enjoying these creations should be something we can all experience. For far too long art was created for the wealthy and educated; I consider this silly. Everyone should be able to create and enjoy art.
Though I do also enjoy “high art,” I chose clothing and jewelry making as my personal artistic contribution to the world. I tend to prefer art with function and this is where my love of “craft” takes hold. I use craft as the channel for my art to reflect my pro-everyday-artist (or anti-art-elitist) as well as pro-female point of view. Crafters aren't always taken seriously as artists or creators (generally you will see the words “arts and crafts” side by side, connoting that they are not interchangable, or one in the same). Crafters are often seen as novelty, folk artists, doing "women's work."
Through this craft I am declaring myself an artist. And I am declaring you an artist; together we are bringing art to the people. By coming here and viewing my work you are supporting an independent artist and are hopefully inspired to relcaim or subvert traditions in art.

I'd like to meet:

Artists, crafters, diy-ers, dreamers...People who appreciate handmade goodies...Anyone who wants to be in my Creativity Club or participate in the Handmade Revolution... or anyone who wants to be on my Hula Hoop Squad.

Want to get to know PinkBird better, and be the first to hear about news, sales, specials, give-aways & more?
