The Phonetics: A 6 piece collaboration featuring former Detroit ska veterans Ich Bin Ein Berliner and Aks Mamma. As a result of the retirement of such veteran ska bands as The Skolars, The Exceptions, Gangster Fun, and The Parka Kings, there came a couple musicians who decided that the next generation of skankers needed to be exposed to a less punk influenced ska sound, which flourished back in the 90's. It was a time when going to ska shows was an exciting event and admission was under five dollars. It was a time when the guys would throw on their two tone suits and the gals would pull up their fishnets and strap on their plaid skirts and boots. Some sad news to report, Val has decided to leave us cause she is training for a trip to Mars and won't have the time for the Phonetics while on Mars. Just kidding, Val isn't going to Mars but she is leaving the band. Val has been with the group from the beginning and she will be missed. We wish you the best of luck with all your future projects.
