Jerusalemite ODELIA DAHAN, singer, creative songwriter, radio broadcaster,and a first place winner, FestiLadino 2004, the Second International Ladino Song Contest(in wich she captured first place with her catchy song, “Deshame Entrar,†or “Let Me In.†Dahan set her lyrics to a melody by Israeli born composer Ben-Amots, Associate Professor of Music at Colorado College, USA). LADINO is a unique Spanish-Jewish dialect that has been preserved throughout the centuries by Jewish communities in various countries of the Balkan and North Africa and in Israel. Ladino speakers have preserved a splendid musical heritage, with a glorious, long history, to the present. Ms. Dahan lives and works in Jerusalem. She specializes in Ladino song, as well as Latin American music. The performer/composer holds a B.A. in Spanish literature from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and is currently studying for her Master of Arts Degree in the musicology department. Odelia Dahan performs programs of Ladino song in addition to her Latin and salsa program onstage with a musical ensemble. Radio personality, music editor and broadcaster of Latin American and other music programs,dahan is currently at work on a new disk: Odelia Dahan’s unique collection of renditions of popular songs (and few of her own original compositions in Ladino),a colaboration with musician Ittai Rosenbaum and The Yellow Submarine Jazz Ensemble.
