About Me

On Air Personality: Keith Kidd: 1964 - Present Home Town: Muncie, Indiana Show Name: Retroactive Where Retroactive is Produced: Muncie, Indiana at Keith Kidd's studio located in his home. Air time: Recorded weekly. Intended for weekend play. Format of the Show: Rhythmic Adult Contemporary. The Retroactive play list offers a rather strange combination of hits in this unique urban/pop crossover. The program sports a more workable and listenable play list in contrast to the "heady" Mojo Rythmic Oldies format invented in the late 1990's that is now being rejected by most radio programmers. The music variety of Retroactive contains danceable songs ranging from the late 70's thru to the early 90's with emphasis being placed on the 80's. Targeted Radio Stations: AC, HOT AC & Rhythmic AC Formats suggested as a novelty "specialty" program. Retroactive could work for stations with other formats as well, depending on individual variables of the station in mind. Targeted Audience: 25-54 Female/Male Show Length: Four hours. One hour = approx. 45 minutes of show time with three five minute stop sets per hour. A stop set appears every 15 minutes. How The Show is Delivered: Each show is available on a 4 CD set in .wav format, and comes with a runsheet detailing each segment and total run time of the show. Each CD is one hour of the show. All of the CD's are broken into tracks at each of the stop sets, adding up to three tracks per CD. MP3 Download - Shows are also available for download in .mp3 format from our server. The runsheet is also available for download from our server in .pdf format.
Unique/Odd Points of the Show: Retroactive carries with it a pinch of big radio echo that was once utilized to make stations sound "bigger than life" in the 1970's and 80's. The sound is now rendered outdated by radio programmers. Retroactive dares to add back the retro reverb from yesteryear, a risky move for a show stepping up to mainstream radio in the year 2007. Other Oddities: The bizarre Money (That's What I want) from the Flying Lizards is played on every show, despite the fact that it has practically received no airplay anywhere in the U.S. since it's release in 1979.
No other syndicated radio show to date that plays music has or is pulling off the "local feel" to the extent that Retroactive is. Some radio programmers however are accussing Retroactive of being too "chatty" to ever become a successful weekend dance show. Despite this critisim, it is the odd and humorous interaction with the music and the audience that draws listeners in and sells them to want more. It should also be noted that Retroactive wholeheartedly denies that it is a dance show. “Retroactive is a Retro show that just so happens to play dance music". What... these songs are no good unless everyone dances to them? Program Directors also tend to frown on side remarks made by the DJ toward music of this genre. The current programming philosophy is that it is better to be quiet, mix it up, and let people dance and party to the music rather than sarcastically sing along with the tunes and make a wise crack or two as a song fades out. The erroneous belief from these programmers is that the audience "needs" and "wants" to dance to weekend retro shows. The reality however is that nobody is dancing to their weekend retro shows, nor do they want to. Although we believe the music is good on Retroactive, we also know that the audience thinks it's quite OK to make a wise crack and make fun of the tunes from time to time. Let's face it, this isn't 1977 where people have discovered a whole new dance craze. This is 2007, and people have taken enough Prozac over the years and have come to the realization that the movie Saturday Night Fever might JUST be the lamest movie ever and that it's alright to laugh at it now. Does the audience want to laugh at some of the music on Retroactive from time to time? Yes. Does the audience like the music... that's a yes as well.
