Lou*s Cafe Manville RI

47 Summer St, Manville, Rock & Roll Rhode Island!

About Me

In 1954, Lou's 1st opened it's doors at 52 Summer St, Manville, Rhode Island...right across the street from its current location at 47 Summer St. Lou moved across the street around 1962, sadly to me now, his shuffle-board is gone. It has always been a great place for the locals to gather and discuss all matters of life, have fun, and drink some spirits. For a while, quoit leagues would play outside, then Lou closed in the "pits". Today, that is the area the great bands come to play, and the pool table is set up for your enjoyment.
Lou has since passed away, a great man he was. Since then, the cafe has changed hands several times, at one point it had a great little restaurant going serving your typical French-Canadian fare such as pork pie, dynamite, and even frogs' legs! Today Magie, Lou's daughter, is running the joint...and she is rocking the house! She's back to serving up some nice pork pie, dynamite, fish & chips, some sweet buffalo wings...mmmm mmmm mmmmmm! And not just that! This place has the best bands playing on Friday and Saturday nights, and Sundays at 6 pm. On Sundays & Mondays she puts out some free food around 5 pm or so. Tuesdays Crazy Joe does Karaoke...and on Thursdays, there's more Karaoke...Smo Ken is on! But best of all is a little known secret the locals might be sad this gets out...but the most awesome band members come and jam on Open Mic Night! RI guitar legends such as Dave Cournoyer and big Dan Pepin come and battle! Those two guys playing together are mesmerizing! Dianne Charpentier, a powerful blues singer, appearing in a few of the photos has a voice that will blow your socks off with her hard hitting vocals. Ken Lyons shows up sometimes after local gigs...Ron "Arhie" Archambault smokes the drums up almost every week. Dick Barlik, the man who invented Mr. Potato-Head, blows his sax and gives you sweet sounds, and Tim Harper comes along with his box of harmonicas to smoke you out! And there are more... I will list more of the performers as time goes by. Dick Willner puts it all together, and you can even go back a week later and buy the CD from him for a few bucks...he tapes most of the sessions.
So come on by and have some fun!
