Comedy is where you find it. For John Perrotta- a correctional officer at the ACI's high security prison by day; and a comedian by night-- that means bachelor parties, baby showers, benefits, roasts, political fund-raisers, and even divorce parties. "I've done backyard cookouts... just about anywhere to keep getting up and performing," chuckles Perrotta, a bear of a man who looks more like he could break up a crowd of people with his presence than break them up with a rapid-fire string of jokes. Although Perrotta can do 45 minutes of one-liners, he's one of those comics who prefers working the crowd-stepping off stage, finding a target. " My act is in the crowd... like Don Rickles," he explains. " I do a 30- 40 minute set, and at least half is improv. I have an easier time off the cuff." Now in his 40s, John Perrotta has been doing comedy all across Rhode Island for over sixteen years. Recently performing with big names like Colin Quinn and Dane Cook, he has become familiar with the spotlight. He has worked with countless comedians who have made it big, such as Bill Burr and Gilbert Gottfried, but still prefers to do comedy exclusively in Rhode Island to be close to his fiancee (planning a wedding!) & family.
