About Me

Infra Red, formerly known as The Reason, is a hip-hop / R&B producer from Oakland, CA. Setting aside his initial aspirations of becoming a professional artist and clothing designer, he began taking an interest in music production. Without any previous training as an engineer, he talked his way into internships at several major bay area recording studios including Studio 880, The Grill Studios, and Straight Hits before ever touching a drum machine. A family friend introduced him to the production tool "Reason" and he began teaching himself to make tracks in the summer of 2004. After just one short year, his production skills caught the ear of video director Taj Mahal and his talent was subsequently brought to the attention of Oakland rapper Clyde Carson. One third of the bay area rap group "The Team" with whom he landed his first major album credit "Ambassador's Night" on the Teams sophomore album "World Premiere" and first song on radio "Rock That Shit Remix". A hot, albiet unofficial remix that debuted on DJ Backside's KMEL radio show "The Hot Spot". From there he went on to produce tracks for major bay area artists such as E-40, Turf Talk, The Federation, Ya Boy, Balance, Mistah F.A.B, Willie Joe, Droop-E, Big Rich, and Rydah J. Klyde among others. While his production style is still distinctly hip-hop, the majority of his tracks have been said to have a decidedly filmic quality to them, and having worked with nearly every significant hip-hop artist in the bay area, Infra Red is a prominent force in the west coast production scene.
