About Me

These are just some of my favourite 4 track moments, the ones where my subconcious took over and I stepped up to the mark. They weren't written, they just happened. I think for me, the most impressive thing is that they were all done in one take, I must have been possessed! 7:00am was played whilst being distracted by youths messing about in a graveyard over the road, I was more concerned with what they were up to than what I was up to. When I listened back, I could hardly believe my wax flappers. It was the first time I ever managed to record anything that I considered impressive, and anything that came close to what I aspired to. 8:00am was recorded after speaking to my dad for the last time and my head was spinning with the conversation we'd just had. I hear heartbreaking anger in that one. In fact sadness, anger and frustration can be heard in a lot of my stuff! Poor sod, but that's what inspires me. Having had no success in the music business, I might be considered a failure by some people, but to me I achieved my wildest dreams just by being able to tap into the music fountain and produce something personal and pure. Mayday is just a venting of some kind of frustration from a time I can't quite remember, and Globic...well that speaks for itself! Insomnia is the feat of acoustic programming that kept me occupied for hours and hours. I couldn't really finger pick when I wrote it. I'd been unable to sleep and eventually got up, tuned the guitar to DADGBD because it sounded nice and 11 hours later I'd written this. Unfortunately I've never been able to play it well enough to record it. Still can't quite play it now and this is the best I can do, I'm so sick of hearing it, in fact I'll probably never be able to play it properly...and yes it is all one guitar! double tracked i'll grant you that. Vac Scene is an homage to my life long obsession with the sound of vacuum cleaners and the incredible symphonies of sound I have heard within the partials of a Hoover Junior, a Sebo X1 or in this case, a Goblin Rio. The 3 tracks of guitars on this tune are played using the vibrations of an unwinding main spring between the pin paletts of an old clock, which also acts as a slide.Music has always been therapy for me, and just the act of strangling a Strat or terrorising a Clarinet is mostly good enough, but it's the occasional gems like these that make it worth while , they represent everything I aspired to as a teenager when I thought I wanted to be a rock star, and more. I don't really consider myself a musician, I can play the guitar for sure, but only when it wants me to. In reality the artists that I listen to are too numerous to enumerate and cross all boundaries of style, however, I will not listen to Hip-Hop, Opera or Bagpipe bands. Oh yes and as Gilly quite rightly points out, she plays the keyboard on Mayday. some of the songs I've done with Gilly can be heard by clicking on the Ornamental cabages and Gilly D icons below
