Tae Kwon Do, reading and writing, mysteries, science fiction and fantasy, true conversation -- without the bull of emotionalism/dogmatic politics -- that explores differing opinions with civility, smart humor, good cooking and the slow food movement.
Readers who enjoy laughing and learning about new places. People with quirky, witty senses of humor. Librarians. Book clubs. Book sellers. People who love New Mexico. Members of women's organizations looking for speakers/presenters. Young adult readers welcome.
World music -- anything with a strong beat that gets me dancing.I also love New Mexican music, the stuff that sounds like country, only in Spanish. Robbie Jude, who you're hearing right now, is an excellent example of the happy side of NM music. Some country -- when it tells an interesting story -- but I can do without the songs that put down being smart. Musicians like the Be Good Tanyas and Carrie Rodriguez deserve a far bigger audience.
Blade Runner, Princess Bride, Stranger than Fiction, Monsoon Wedding, Spirited Away, the Seven Samurai, Rashomon. . . and many more that I can't think of right now.
Life on Mars (this is a great show!), Da Vinci Inquest (superb scripts and acting), The Closer, Without a Trace, Medium, some Law & Order (SVU/original),Studio 60 . . . and I'd be watching much more if I didn't have cable for cheapos.
Oh, there are too many for this. I adore most books by Orson Scott Card, Jasper Fforde, Lois McMaster Bujold and scores of mystery writers including those on http://www.murderati.com and many on Crimespace.com.
Right now?Al Gore -- for getting people to talk rationally about difficult things that affect us all, disirregardless of politics or religious persuasion.Jon Stewart -- for showing us the absurdity of political life.Bill Moyers -- for getting us to think. The lady I met at the swimming pool when I was 16 who told me, "When you're 16 and you're not beautiful, it's not your fault. When you're 60 and you're not beautiful, it is."Moms always tell their kids that it's what's inside that counts. Well, it's true and it shows on your face and in your every action.
