I've always loved the written word. Almost more than the meaning, I love the shape and grace of text. How wonderful that the same word can look so different but means the same thing in one font to the next. Words become symbols and a form of art. Expressive phrases allow you to share with others inspiring, thought-provoking humorous or reflectåive sentiments. Words convey your intellect, your philosophy, and can even serve as a window to your soul.
Unlike a photo or painting, words allow you to use your imagination. My friend, Julie, says: "A well-chosen phrase is worth a thousand pictures when it's applied to walls and furnishings." Of course, she is a writer and also a lover of words.
I'm a graphic designer who used to paint signs as part of my job; I also used to enjoy hand-lettering quotations on the walls of my home. But painting a long quotation by Yeats in my bathroom while tottering on a stepladder was agonizingly slow.

I had found a wonderful old print from the 1800's of a mermaid hugging a lad who is standing on some rocks while she is half submerged in the ocean. I thought it would be fun to have the print across from the commode and then have the poem start in the corner and run around the bathroom, about a foot from the ceiling. That way when anyone was using the facilities they would face the print and they would start reading the poem and (hopefully) chuckle.
In 8 months I had only painted 5 words. There always seemed to be something else to do. I decided there had to be a better way, so I laid the saying out on the computer and had vinyl letters made by a display company. It took me 20 minutes to install. People think it's been hand-painted, but the truth is it was quick and easy to apply.
I now make lettering that is available to you and is more economical than what I originally paid. No more long hours trying to get great looking lettering.
