Flax in Bloom play Irish traditional music consisting of songs and lively dance music. The band has existed since the autumn of 2000. With a preference for music from the north of Ireland, and well aquainted with Irish music in general, the band play with nerve, authority and not least, with a warmth which projects the music far over the edge of the stage.
Flax in Bloom started as a a five-piece band, consisting of Sussie Nielsen, Tim Goddard, Ditte Fromseier Mortensen, Ciarán Doran and Rasmus Zeeberg. They recorded their first demo November 2000.
Ciarán left the group in the spring of 2001 and we became a four-piece band.
In september 2002, Sussie left for Limerick in Ireland, to start a one year M.A. study i Irish Traditional Music Performance. When she returned with her Masters degree in hand, Ditte left to do the same thing. While she was away, we invited Sonnich Lydom to help us out. Tim and Sonnich used to play together in a band called Foxhunters, and have been playing in sessions together for the last 23 years. When Ditte came back in 2004 with her M.A. year successfully completed, we decided, once more, to make Flax in Bloom a five piece band. Malene joined us October 2006, replacing Rasmus, who was busy touring a lot with his own band Zar and the band Hush.
Sonnich, Malene and Tim can regularly be heard playing at Denmark´s premier session, which takes place on Sunday afternoons, from three o´clock onwards, at the "Bloomsday" bar, Niels Hemmingsensgade, Copenhagen. Sometimes we´re all down there, so drop in if you´re in the vicinity.
