Disharmony

About Me

Literally, Disharmony means the opposite of ‘harmony’. In our minds, Disharmony means anti-conformism, liberty of creation and equilibrium on a wide variety of heavy styles.Looking backwards, the music style of Disharmony used to be… “characterized by variation as it combines in a harmonic way, various metal elements - doom, thrash, progressive, speed thrash- with a power covering, while vocals lie in melodic heavy/power lines”. And yes, this is quite close to what penetrates your ear while listening to Disharmony's music. Metal means no borders.John Karousiotis (guitars) and Stelios Mihas (guitars) being friends since high school along with Kostas Agouras (drums) formed the nucleus of the band, while after a while Chris Kounelis (vocals) recruited his throat. The four of them –with the valuable help of Kostas Tatsis (bass) recorded the HARMONY REALMS demo(1997) which extracted very positive reviews from wide circulation metal magazines as well as fanzines. This gave them a confidence boost and started creating new stuff along with their newly recruited member Panagiotis Gkatsopoulos (bass), who proved himself to be the link that was destined to complete the Disharmony –metal- chain. The five of them stimulated their audience for several times, performing live inside and outside Athens, while the self-promotion of the HARMONY REALMS demo was going on successfully: its tracks were transmitted by various European radio stations (Spain, Portugal, Germany, Brazil, Belgium etc.) and Disharmony kept on making new friends from all over the world…In 1999, the “WHEN PURITY WITHERS” demo-mini-CD of the band is being released (30’ of five “W.P.W” tracks +15’of “HARMONY REALMS” remastered demo.If HARMONY REALMS demo was marked as more than hopeful, WHEN PURITY WITHERS was a certain shock in the brains of the unsuspicious metal fans and turned the initial surprise to excitement. To cut a long way short, the underground metal community welcoming of “WHEN PURITY WITHERS” CD was more than just something unexpected. Everything seemed to become one with the flow, their music studies went on and on, inspiration and creation became constant companions of the band, till -through university studies, army obligations and job issues- created their own home studio, a dream of many years. Along with the studio, they rehearsed and recorded new songs; surely the most mature since the beginning! However, some obstacles appeared in the way, adequate enough to delay the mixing and mastering process: Stelios moved for a couple of years to Berklee University, as he’s been chosen to receive a guitar scholarship, while Kostas recently and unfortunately “divorced” himself from the band in a friendly manner in order to face some serious personal problems.Despite these problems, mastering the new songs is what has been left for the time, as well as constantly recording new ones, in order for Disharmony to fulfil their appetite for creation!
