Uschi ObermaierFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Uschi Obermaier (September 24, 1946 in Munich, a.k.a. Chrissi Malberg) was a fashion model and groupie and one of the protagonists of the 1968 left-wing movement in Germany. She is regarded to have been the sex symbol of the 1968 generation in Europe.

Obermaier and the Kommune 1
Uschi Obermaier was discovered by the magazine twen. Thin and petite much like Twiggy, she represented a new type of model.Obermaier moved from Munich to the Berlin-based Kommune 1 after she had become Rainer Langhans' girlfriend. Langhans and Obermaier freely talked to the media about their relationship, becoming symbols of the sexual revolution. John Lennon and Yoko Ono, among others, followed their example.
It is important to note, however, that Obermaier was not viewed by most in the Ausserparlamentarische Opposition as one of their activists. She did not take part in radical feminist actions like the other female members and friends of the Kommune 1. She was best known for appearances in major German magazines, such as Stern, in which she appeared openly nude and using marijuana.
Obermaier probably was the best known German groupie of the 1960s. She was briefly a member of the Krautrock-band Amon and is said to have had affairs with Keith Richards, Mick Jagger and Jimi Hendrix.
Obermaier had featured roles in several films. In "Detektive" (1968, directed by Rudolf Thome) she played alongside Iris Berben. She was the main protagonist of the movie Rote Sonne (1969). Together with Rainer Langhans, she had a small role in the movie Haytabo.
In 1973, Uschi Obermaier fell in love with Dieter Bockhorn, the rich owner of a club in Hamburg's red-light district, the Reeperbahn. Together, they traveled the world in a customized bus, first spending three years in Asia, then going to Mexico and the USA for another three years. In an Interview (Galore, Issue25) Obermaier marked reports as completely fictious that she and Bockhorn would have had a traditional wedding in every country they traveled in. They only married once in India. After ten years their relationship ended abruptly. On New Year's Eve 1983, Dieter Bockhorn died in a motorcycle accident in Mexico.
By then, Uschi Obermaier had been granted American citizenship. Today, she lives in Topanga Canyon near Los Angeles, working as a jewellery designer.
Her life has been depicted in a biopic called Das wilde Leben (which translates to The Wild Life). Is had been directed by Achim Bornhak and was released in February 2007.

Rock and Roll Muses

Mini Mad Mod 60's

Music:

Amon Düül I
Though not as highly regarded as their successors, Amon Düül I celebrated in a joyfully open ended experimentation that at times equalled their more successful psychedelic rock equivalents in the USA and other countries (Ref. Os Mutantes). Such a loose methodology was unavoidably hit or miss and led to frequent disruptive personnel changes. The members were close to Kommune 1 in Berlin and boasted, for a time, a prominent member in Uschi Obermaier, a glamour girl of the day. Continuing for seven years, with varing degrees of success and in varying mutating guises, they wound down in 1973 after releasing four official albums (though most were recorded pre 1970 and the first three albums all came from one 1968 jam) which are these days regarded as esoteric if not necessary important records in the history of German rock.

Movies:

Detektive (1969), Geschäftsfreunde, Die (1970), Rote Sonne (1970), Haytabo, Um Die 30 German television (1995), Blutrausch (1997) .... Marlene Thompson ... aka Vienna Murder Mystery (USA)

A biopic about Uschi's life - Das Wilde Leben translates into The Wild Life, also known as Eight Miles High! or 8 Miles High (working title).
The German movie, which is set in the 1960s, deals with the "wild life" of Uschi Obermaier, the first known German groupie. She got introduced to sexual freedom at the legendary "Kommune 1" in Berlin through a famous krautrockband named Amon Düül. Uschi from Munich quickly transforms into a model and she rises up to be a sex symbol and a youth icon.
She can be seen as cover girl of the Playboy and rockstars like Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are at her feet. Even the infamous Italian film producer Carlo Ponti tries to get her to sign a 10 year contract with him - but she declines. Her freedom is more important to her than a contract. During her intensive relationship with Keith Richards, she suddenly starts to recognize the dark side of the shiny glamour world she lives in. The isolation of the stars, and the groupie-existence in the anonymous hotel rooms - they don't get along well with her idea of life. She finds new freedom in a relationship with the adventurer Dieter Bockhorn (David Scheller). They fall in love and start a 6 year roadtrip around the world. But Bockhorn dies."They've found the paradise. Nobody dispelled them. They left by their own choice, because they couldn't take it anymore."
Directed by Achim Bornhak. Writing credits Achim Bornhak, Olaf Kraemer. Stars Natalia Avelon as Uschi Obermaier, Matthias Schweighöfer as Rainer Langhans, Victor Norén (singer of the Swedish band Sugarplum Fairy) as Mick Jagger, Alexander Scheer as Keith Richards and David Scheller as Dieter Bockhorn.
2007- Uschi with Natalia Avelon, the actress portraying her in Das Wilde Leben
