About Me

'The demo from Galway-based Lonneke Goddijn is making a return appearance on my deck, so I can reasses her song 'Why' for the Song Of The Fortnight slot. Lonneke did it all on her bedroom Tascam. 'Why' has her attractively dodgy voice well on the fore and still manages to impart some real feeling, and the song has an infectious reggae-lite undertow and a catchy chorus. What more could you want on a cold February morning?' Jackie Hayden about 'Why', his choice for Song Of The Fortnight in 'Demo Dip', Hot Press 02-2003 'Galway-based Lonneke Goddijn spent some time in Sun Studios courtesy of this column. The result was a new song called 'Why Not' and it's a rattling good slice of chord-driven power-punk, with Goddijn's compelling voice delivering it to the manor born, although at 4.05 it could be clipped a little. Courtney Love, eat your woman's heart out.' Jackie Hayden in his column 'First Cuts', Hot Press 03-2004 Ach Vaderlief, a Dutch tear-jerker originally sung by 'de Zangeres Zonder Naam' (the Singer Without Name), was recorded with Irish traditional accordionist Steve Mc Suibhne from Spiddal. The track was a contribution to the CD 'Sean Agus Nua - Egsulacht!', a CD that celebrates the cultural variety in Galway and was made by musicians from all over the world living in Galway. http://www.seanagusnua.com
