Neil LaBute’s bristling new comic drama puts the final ferocious cap on a trilogy of plays that began with The Shape of Things and Fat Pig. America’s obsession with physical beauty is confronted headlong in this brutal and exhilarating new play.
In reasons to be pretty, Greg’s tight-knit social circle is thrown into turmoil when his off-handed remarks about a female co-worker’s pretty face (and his girlfriend Steph’s lack thereof) get back to said girlfriend. But that’s just the beginning. As their relationship crumbles, their friends are pulled into the fray, and all are forced to confront a sea of deceit, infidelity, and betrayed trust in their journey to answer that oh-so-American question: How much is pretty worth?
MCC Theater is Off-Broadway's hottest destination. And our upcoming 08/09 Season proves it, with three electrifying world premiere productions: Fifty Words, Michael Weller's powerful examination of modern marriage, The Break of Noon, a probing look at faith by Playwright-in-Residence, Neil LaBute, and Coraline, with music and lyrics by smart-rock iconoclast Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields. Don't miss this opportunity to secure seats for all three productions at 60% off the full ticket price. Go to mcctheater.org to subscribe!

My Interests

Guided by the artistic vision of Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey and William Cantler, MCC Theater brings together exceptional theater artists to produce works that force us to reexamine the world we live in through the unique perspectives of extraordinary writers. MCC Theater is dedicated to discovering and developing challenging, engrossing theater to present on our main stage, while simultaneously nurturing the development of emerging young voices through our literary and education programs.

I'd like to meet:

actors, directors, designers, artists, theater patrons, Neil LaBute fans, off-Broadway fans, New Yorkers

Movies:

Movies are great, but I go to the theater.

Television:

TV is okay, but I go to the theater.

Heroes:

We believe in the artist as the primary force in creating memorable theater. We believe each experience in the theater should be an event where artists in playwriting, acting, direction and design combine to induce an emotional reaction in the audience, getting them personally involved in the production at hand. We feel that this is best done with new work, which allows the audience to hear new voices and perspectives that can mingle with the audience's own experiences, resulting in a fresh discovery of the world around them and creating a dialogue that continues long after the curtain falls.
