amir ebrahimnia
Amir Ebrahimnia, co-founder/owner of Replant Records, is a real workaholic, so it is no wonder he has earned himself a reputation in various fields. His professions and projects range from international trading and development to music composition / production, DJing and artist management. Since the early 1980s, Amir has been digging deep into music, working as a DJ, artist, producer and composer who’s had great influence on the Toronto club scene. With his projects such as Babylon Martini & Musique Boutique, Technofunk Collective, Delicious Urban Media and Replant Records, Amir Ebrahimnia has managed to create a well-respected platform for innovative ideas and grooves that have inspired dance floors throughout the world.
Along with his career, Amir also began establishing his remarkable DJ career in the early 1980s. He made his first appearance as a DJ at age 15, spinning the wheels at various Mod Events in his hometown Toronto. "I remember hunting down old northern soul records by corresponding via snail mail with other dj pin pals in england & Europe", says Amir. "That was something very unusual at that time. Northern Soul and Rare Groove was so underground in North America that it was practically non existent."
Growing up in the 80’s, the step from Northern Soul, Ska, Dub reggae and danceable New Wave to a somewhat funky and jazzy Black Music seemed a "natural development" to Amir. As soon as the first sample tracks like Al Wilson's "Sign of the Snake" hit the local record shops, Amir got them and featured them. Soul and Jazz came back with the New School, and by checking out all original Rare Grooves and funky things that were sampled at the early stage of New School hip hop, Amir was always up-front and became known by almost everyone in Toronto who had a thing going for Nu Jazz, club music, Black Music, Records and not to mention Djing. He was a popular and frequent guest-DJ at Toronto’s "Soul Direction" Mod nights, a true Modern and Northern Soul party, where Amir was out to make Rare Groove, Boogie, Soul and Garage more popular in Toronto. During the House wave, he was the driving force behind more soulful and groovy stuff, and instead of inviting just anyone for his regular club nights @ Babylon, Amir decided to invite DJs like Montreal’s Patrick “Star80” Garry, DJ Lek, Elliot Lazor, TK Sheppard, Mark Scaife, Mitch Whinthrop, Jason Palma, Stephane “Teknostep” Vera, DJ Shine or Marc deBryne instead.
In the process of the development of House, Disco, Downbeat, trip hop, Drum & Bass, Breakbeat and Electro in the 90s, Amir Ebrahimnia launched the club "Babylon martini & musique boutique" with their escapades into Nu Jazz structures and broken beats. As Amir puts it:"I have never been the kind of DJ to play strictly one style. I've always tried to present a wide range of interesting music, making the past to the present and other-way-round! I'm a full spectrum DJ. My favorite DJs are still those who play deep shit, just the best tunes, old and new, entertaining the crowd as well as giving respect to the originators. It's not the mix that counts, it's the mixture!"
Magnetic. Vibrant. Freedom. Creative. Cultural. These words only begin to describe the music and talents of amir. dj/composer/producer, amir has steadily and carefully crafted an original body of work he terms a “spiritually tinged blend of house music and multi-dimensional sounds.”
Born in Tehran Iran, Amir grew up in Toronto Canada. immersed in the sounds and rhythms of one of the most frenetic and culturally diverse cities on earth and influenced by world beats, early 80's electronica, rock steady, funk, punk, nu jazz and of course house and techno beats.

Born in Santiago, Chile, in 1980, Simón was surrounded by the revolutionary sounds of the Chilean folk music movement of which both his parents were a big part of. Fled to Toronto, Canada in 1986 he grew up going through his parents records, listening to artists like; Illapu, Inti Illimani, Violeta Parra, and Victor Jara to name a few.
Through out his schooling he studied several instruments, finally focusing on the cello. The rest of his youth was spent with his headphones glued to his ears listing to his older brothers diversified influences of The Cure, The Smiths, Pet Shop Boys, 808 State, Utah Saints, Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim and MANY more.
His love for electronic music stemmed from his amateur dance career in the Toronto jazz/swing scene into the French House music scene, the combination and sampling of his favorite jazz musicians and rhythms with house beats blew him away and he hasn't stopped dancing since.
He began his dj career in 2002 thanks to his friendship with his soul brother and long time Toronto dj and bar owner Amir Ebrahimnia. "Amir sold me my first set of 1200's. Decks which belonged to the legendary DJ STAR 80 and to this day radiate with his incredible energy".
Over the past 4 years he has played his unique eclectic style of house in Canada, Chile and Spain along side several of Toronto's greatest electronic music dj's/producers the likes of; Stéphane 'Teknostep' Vera, DJ Shine, Gerald Belanger, Greg Goldsack, Marc de Breyne, DJ Gryphon, Rob Nice, Deko-ze, Jason Hudson, Jason Hodges, Blissom, Rise Ashen, Sydney Blu, DJ Hecate Jay Moore, Matt Gracie and many more.
Recently Simón's music production work has been featured in a short film "Casting" shown at the Latin American Film Festival in Spain. In the works is an album in collaboration with Amir Ebrahimnia and a personal project fusing house with Andean sounds, so keep your ears to dance floor.

If you've been enjoying the Nelly Furtado pre-show music at any of her stadium shows the past few months, then you've been grooving to the latest mix from nice+smooth recording artist Jason "DJ Shine" Spanu. Longtime player in the global dance music scene with numerous singles, remixes and compilation appearances under his belt, Jason has made his reputation well known among some of the world's top producers and artists.
His performances are a live PA/DJ combination that have rocked dance floors at huge events and underground jams from Mexico City to Vienna.
Currently on a world tour as the programmer in Nelly Furtado's live band and the DJ in Saukrates live band, Jason really has a lot on his plate these days. Between gigs he is wrapping up production on his second full length release of original music entitled 'Attention Deficit Disco', due out this summer.
Jason Spanu has been involved in almost every aspect of music production since the early '90s - working with numerous Toronto based musicians and bands as well as playing at many clubs, concerts and raves as an accomplished DJ and performance artist under the alter ego 'DJ SHINE'. As a live performer, Shine blurs the distinction between DJ/Producer, spinning flawless techno and house on three turntables alongside his samplers. He has blown minds at raves and clubs throughout Canada, and has also performed in New York, Texas and Florida.
2002 starts off with a bang for Shine as the follow up Shine Vs. Teknostep 12" hits stores in late January. "Flip-Flops" (nice 0008) is a fresh, tweaky, jazzy, funky little deep-house groove, while the flipside features the straight-ahead floor-filler remix of "Stressed Out", a track from the "Thinque" cd. Switching it up on track 2 of the b-side is a somber downtempo piano track by Shine entitled "September Day."
Jason recently completed a series of live shows in Toronto and Montreal to celebrate the new discs, as well as television appearances spinning on Muchmusic's 'Electric Circus' and on the MusiquePlus dance show "Bouge!".
He is currently recording 3 songs a day, teaching dj+midi classes, and gearing up for his next gigs in Europe.
