Rock N Roll for the Soul
The Last Straw blends rock n roll, blues, funk, soul, and southern roots music into a powerful and dynamic sound that consistently captivates audiences.Drawing influences from their southern roots, these five men have worked together to feed their audiences with a sound this generation has been hungry for. Since forming in February of 2007, The Last Straw has already proven themselves as one of the most highly recognized bands in Middle Tennessee. They have played sold out shows at popular venues in Murfreesboro, Nashville, Kentucky, Alabama and Florida. In early 2008, the band performed at Nashville's biggest rock awards ceremony The Buzzies hosted by 102.9 "The Buzz" fm. The band was nominated for 3 prestigious awards and took home "Best Guitarists" for Kyle Daniel and Quincey Meeks and "Best Auxiliary Instrumentalist" for Adam Botner. The Last Straw was also selected to perform at this years Red Gorilla Music festival in Austin, TX and the Do Dah Day festival in Birmingham, AL.Although the band has only been together a short time, they have already worked with several notable people in the music industry such as Anthony Krizan of The Spin Doctors and Greg Hamm, legendary engineer of several artists such as Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Their work with Hamm allowed them to capture their dynamic energy in a live recording in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Each member of The Last Straw has had their own successes and experiences in the music industry, furthering their notoriety as a whole. Lead guitarist, lead singer, and songwriter, Kyle Daniel, from Bowling Green, KY, won the Southern Kentucky Blues Challenge in 2004 and went on the next year to place as a finalist in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. Keyboardist and songwriter, Adam Botner, from Lexington, KY, has performed with members of The Allman Brothers Band and The Black Crowes, and has had success touring with other bands in the Southeast region. Slide guitarist, harp player, and songwriter, Quincey Meeks, of Gadsden, AL, has toured extensively around the Southeast with several bands over the years. Bassist, Marc Williams, of Murfreesboro, TN, spent time touring around the central coast of CA while serving in the US Air Force. Since returning home, Marc has recorded and performed with multiple acts around middle Tennessee. Renowned drummer Jason “Kidd†Petersen, also of Murfreesboro, TN, has spanned the world performing on various forms of percussion. In 1999 Kidd was ranked 3rd in the nation by P.A.S. as a snare drum soloist. Whether it’s a drum set with the Wooten brothers, hand percussion at Carnegie Hall, or marching with a world ranked drum corp. through Europe, Kidd has done it."..."Down the Line," [is] a powerful rock anthem about the residents of New Orleans and hurricane Katrina. This song to me is an indication of where the future of southern rock lies."
