CARLO PACINI: 25 YEARS OF FUCKING ROCK’N’ROLL

About Me

Carlo Pacini was born in La Spezia, Italy (north-west coast) on April 4th 1966 and lives in Viareggio, a very cahotic town 50 km far still on the coast. He is a rock’n’roll songwriter, he sings and plays guitar and he can play drums and bass too. He has been loving music since he was a child and when he was 14 he has been so impressed by listening to Led Zeppelin that he said to himself: “Hey, this is great! I want to play and I will be a musician!MUSIC IS MY LIFE! “. And MUSIC IS REALLY HIS LIFE! That’s because life has been very very hard for him, he has been passing through tragedies, big problems, big pain and suffering since he was a child and only music, rock’n’roll saved him from the worse! He started as a drummer and, of course, he was inspired by John Bonham! So when he was about 16 he was playing with his first band (the SOUTHCROSS) doing few hard rock and blues classics. He was drumming but in the meantime learning to play guitar ad sing because he really was in need to write his own songs that everyday he had inside ready to be played and so he has been writing songs for every band he has been into. In those early years (from 1982 ‘til 1985) he played drums with the Southcross and with the AUFSCHLAG, a punk-hardcore band influenced by Dead Kennedys, Discharge, Black Flag that has been published on cd 20 years later! The main thing is that both the bands were always trying to play live as much as possible doing gigs in every place they could (for no money most of the times!) and so Carlo started his big long live experience. In 1986 Carlo (still on the drums)and bass player Walter Fabbri from Southcross formed another hard rock band called PEDILUVIO that sounded like a mix between Led Zep,Rush with a bit of psychedelic influence by Daevid Allen’s Gong! They played original songs written by every member and just some covers and they had a lot of gigs around but even outside their area playing in the pubs and clubs and in few festivals too.In 1988 they recorded a demo-tape and a live concert that Carlo is now trying to remaster and put on cd. Then Carlo left the band in 1989 because they were turning “too fucking prog!”. In the meantime, still starting from 1986, Carlo was playing guitar in another band (STRAIGHT EDGE AND THE BARFLIES) still writing and playing original songs more than covers. They played a basic wild rock’n’roll (someboby calls it “garage rock”) inspired by early Kinks, Creedence, the Stooges, MC5 and some of the 80s bands that they appreciated a lot like Violent Femmes, the Fuzztones, the Alleycats. They have been playing a lot of live gigs and they recorded a very good demo-tape in 1987 (and Carlo is re-working on it too), then they splitted in 1989 because two of them decided to stop playing music. In 1990 Carlo recorded a solo demo-tape with 4 of his original songs singing and playing every instrument (except for the keyboards). This demo also contains a weird version of Jefferson Airplane’s “Crown of creation” that Carlo re-arranged and recorded with Walter Fabbri on bass. In the meantime he started playing in another band called LAMBERTO. He was playing guitar and he was also the lead singer for his first time. The band was really punk rock oriented and they were especially playing few 60s and 70s rock’n’roll covers with a very wild attitude (the Who, the Stooges, the Velvet Underground...). They really played a lot of gigs even if they have been together for one year only. In 1991 Carlo and his friend Walter Fabbri were playing as an acoustic duo called ASCETRA doing live gigs in pubs and clubs and then they decided to form a new band and so, in ’92 the AMPHETHEATROS started. Carlo (vocals and lead guitar) was really influenced by Jane’s Addiction and, maybe more than before, he was writing every song for the band. They did play live a lot and even really outside their area in few festivals and pubs of course. They recorded a couple of demo-tapes in ’94 and in ’97 (that they put on RUMORE musical magazine) and they were about close to be well-known but in 1998 they splitted because everyone had personal problems (life is hard!). Carlo was alone again but he couldn’t stop and so you could find him playing in every jam session in and over his area and so he really became well known and appreciated, also as a real bluesman too, by a lot of musicians. In the meantime he was still writing a lot of songs and thinking about himself as a songwriter and trying to find other musicians to play with. While waiting for this he formed another band to continue his live performances ( CARLO PACINI & THE STREET HASSLE). We are now in 2000 and Carlo with his friend Walter had the idea to make a live tribute to the Velvet Underground that has been quite successful for about one year. After that, in 2001, he formed the first line-up of CARLO PACINI & THE VICIOUS CLUB (that is still his main band) and in 2002 he recorded a demo-cd with six of his original songs and two personal cover versions (“Vicious” by Lou Reed and “Ha tutte le carte in regola” by Piero Ciampi). With four of these songs he ran for the important “Premio Ciampi” italian competition. While The Vicious Club were continuing their big live activity, Carlo met lead guitar player Claudio Rosetti and the harp player Andrea Maffei. We now are in 2003 and they formed an acoustic blues trio together (CARLO PACINI BLUES & MORE TRIO, still going) and they immediatly started to play live gigs around. In 2004, after some changes in the line-up, the Vicious Club became what they are now: Claudio Rosetti joined the band with Andrea Bianchi on bass and Rodolfo Giardina on drums (long experienced musicians used to play together). So Carlo, at last, has found the perfect musicians to express his idea of rock’n’roll. Keeping on going through more important live gigs, in 2006 they recorded a demo-cd with four Carlo’s songs. They played live at the most important italian competition “Pistoia Blues-in” where they came for the 2nd twice at the final (2005 and 2006) for one vote only! Anyway The Vicious Club continue to play live and they are really appreciated in and outside their area. In the meantime the Blues & More Trio recorded a live demo-cd too and they also play a lot of gigs. In summer 2006 Carlo joined another band (the ORDINARY MADNESS) where he sings and plays rythmic guitar. Then we have his friend Sonia Cenceschi on the lead guitar, Federico Luciani on the keyboards, Simone Fioravanti on bass, and Luca Fioravanti on drums. The band plays a kind of personal hard rock and every member is writing songs. They started very good together and they are going to play few live gigs around their area.Ok, now you just have heard about Carlo Pacini’s nightlife, of course dedicated to play his fucking rock’n’roll. But the problem is that, if he wants to survive, he keeps on dedicating his daylife to paint fucking boats in the shipyards!
