Born in Holguin, Cuba, Luis Nubiola started his musical background and studies at the Escuela Vocacional de Arte Gómez GarcÃa from the province of HolguÃn. He attended medium superior level at the Escuela José MarÃa Ochoa in the same province where helped with various musical groups from this school, participating on local level and international festival of music. In 1990 he won the first place of the Música Amadeo Roldán musical context.Luis Nubiola graduated of instrumentalist, Saxophone professor and group practice from the Conservatorio Nacional de Música de La Habana Amadeo Roldán. He was attending the class of Carlos Averhoff, the actual Saxophone Master from the Universidad de Música de Miami.Nubiola has played for several years in the only jazz club in Cuba, La Zorra y el Cuervo. There he had the good fortune of sharing with accomplished musicians such as Steve Coleman, Wynton Marsalis, George Benson, Gonzalo Rubalcava, Danilo Pérez, Chucho Valdez, and others.He also played with the Cuban musical group PG, under the direction of José Luis Cortés (El Tosco), founder of the famous Irakere and Van Van groups.Luis Nubiola traveled to Costa Rica with the Top Secret group directed by the distinguish trumpet player José Miguel Credo ( El Greco) for a performance at the Melico Salazar Theater and decided to settle down in the country. In the presence works as a saxophone professor at the Academia de Música Bach y Yamaha.In Costa Rica Nubiola has worked with renowned musicians such as Walter Flores, Gilberto JarquÃn, Miriam JarquÃn, Ramses Araya, Chepe González, Luis Monge, Squad, The Neotics, and with renowned international musicians such as Brandon Fields and the saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera.Moreover, he now performs with the Cuban musical group Chocolate. This group brought to Costa Rica rhythms from the island of Cuba, rich in Cuban musical traditions.In December 2005, Nubiola completed his first production. This CD contains seven completely original pieces rooted in Afro-Cuban jazz and traditional rhythms, including the elements of Cuban cultural syncretism.
