Do It Yourself
The idea for this band probably came about in 2001 when I got a guitar and began writing cheesy punk songs about pizza and x-girlfriends. My friend Graham (who I knew from Airdrie) had a bass so we planned to start a band once we both graduated and moved to calgary.
In may or june 2002 we both went to a grad party of one of the Airdrie schools, and somewhere in our drunkenness decided it would be funny to streak (with t-shirts and ties, which isn't really streaking) past the buses when people loaded to go home. The next day I said it would be funny to write a song about our two dollar ties. Then I think Graham said we should call the band two dollar ties
We moved to Calgary and started jamming with our friend Dustin who took an interest when he sat in on some sessions. He picked up a guitar and was better than me, so we decided to let him in the band. At one point Brent also tried drumming... and being the button pusher of the automatic drum-in-pedal.
Eventually our friend Jody introduced us to Ryan who still lived at his parents in Airdrie (finally a space where people didn't call the cops on us) and played pretty dam good drums. he joined and we started to actually finish songs.
In the summer of 03, Graham decided he didn't want to do the band thing anymore because he wanted to actually make something of his life, plus I was a jerk to him, so I asked Brent if he wanted to play bass. With this lineup we played our first show alongside the madcowboys and hogpuncher at the undgerground nov 23, 03.
Ultimately Ryan wasn't that pumped to be told what songs to play and how to play them, and the band went its separate way. Through a short period of time we played shows with Brock, Andrew, Tommy, and eventually we met John. Dustin had also decided to make something of his life, and Dave filled in on second guitar for a few shows and a really badly organized tour to the east. We played with John until the summer of 2006 when he decided to leave to concentrate more on his songwriting and solo career. Our last drummer was Brian; straight from the east coast. I knew him from when I played bass for thoughtless action. We went on a decent tour to BC in March 07, and recorded some pretty bad songs all by ourselves.
recently we found that we were all getting pretty busy with other things goin on in our lives, and so for the moment it looks like we're not up to much. also we should say thanks to anyone who's ever booked us, came to our shows, helped fix our van, let us sleep at their house, etc... , you are all awesome
