It all started in the summer of 2005, when Lindsay (bass) and Sarah (guitar) reunited after six years of playing in separate projects. After some jamming and songwriting, Clay/Satan (also of Inspected by 40) was added on drums and the trio was complete.
The Seven Deadly Grins played their first show at The Barfly in January 2006, mashing up genres and honing the style that would eventually be known as “GRINCOREâ€. With people sold on the Deadly sound, it wasn’t long before SDG were playing regular shows around Calgary.
There Goes The Neighborhood, a seven song album was released in August 2006 and accomplished the goal of making music without compromise and abolishing genres everywhere. With influences drawn from punk, metal, and hilariousness, the Seven Deadlies’ sound remained open to interpretation. Having been described as everything from “grunge†to “spaghetti western†to “the Lunachicks beating up a Mariachi bandâ€, SDG found themselves playing all kinds of wacky shows.
In the spring of 2008, with a new cd ready to be released, the Seven Deadlies were forced to go on indefinite hiatus. Then with everything on hold until bass player Lindsay’s injuries had healed, the Grins found themselves parting ways with their drummer, Satan.
