House of God by Samuel Shem is absolutely the best book ever written. The World Almanac and Book of Facts 1990-2006, Napalm and Silly Putty (Carlin), The Selfish Gene (Dawkins), Anything Robert Ingersoll, All sorts of Socrates and Plato too. I also like most of Crichton's work.
