Hard hitting Australian Hip Hop has a new face. the lyrically vicious Suburban Intellect consisting of Hip Hop pioneer 22 year veteran DJ Peril (1200 Techniques) and South East Melbourne duo Surreal and Nate B providing Australia with some premium Hip Hop. Suburban Intellect is what the Hip Hop culture has been waiting for and has already turned heads in the industry and are setting the standard for Hip Hop in 2005.
After the success of the single What you gonna do (keep an eye out for the video) single off DJ Peril presents Street Elite EP Suburban Intellect has just put the final touches on there own Don't Sleep mixtape. The Don't Sleep mixtape was created to show Australia the diversity these boys can bring to Hip Hop and their ability to spit skillfully over any track. The boys have recorded a club banger which will be released as a high profile single and video on the new DJ Peril album and are currently working on their own highly anticipated debut album set for release next year.
Suburban Intellect are creating quite a large reputation for their highly energetic live shows having performed along side international acts such as Busta Rhymes, Jin (Ruff Ryders), Mobb Deep, Loop Troop, Digital Underground, Supernatural, and Australias own 1200 Techniques.
Both Surreal and Nate B have been Emcees individually for around 8 years and came together after being introduced by mutual friends and at a bus stop and started beat boxing and exchanged rhymes and the rest is history. 20-year-old Surreal earned his rep through taking out the Victorian Heat of The Battle for Supremacy in 2004 (Australia and New Zealand's biggest freestyle Emcee Battle) and has been selected to represent the Australian team 2 years running. He is regarded by many as on of Australias best freestyle Emcees. Nate B with his thought provoking Street Poetry is one Emcee you should look out for, with his smooth husky delivery, he evokes images of a Barry White style baritone. Melbourne has given nothing but love to this seriously flavoursome combination.
Suburban Intellect and Street Elite is built on the respect for the past and present in Hip Hop culture and bring both worlds together. DJ Peril has built Suburban Intellect upon the foundations of what Hip Hop was originally about which is rawness, self expression, skills, positivity and above all originality. Keep your ear to the streets and look out for Suburban Intellect in 2005/2006 Don't Sleep.
