About Me
DJ Sinamin is Saint Louis’ best kept secret. She is at the top of her DJ game, and is a serious threat to the guys. She can rock with the best. If you saw her walking down the street she’s probably the last person you'd expect to see rocking nightclubs, parties, and mixshows. Playing music from every genre, whether its hip hop, rock, reggae, pop, RnB, funk, mashups, drum n bass, breaks, house, trance or techno she can tear up any dancefloor. In April 2007, she was the first female DJ officially on St. Louis radio on KSLZ107.7 and Z107.7 (HD).
Sinamin has been involved and surrounded by music her entire life. She began playing the piano by ear around age 5, and has continued to have a love for music throughout her life. Growing up around various types of music, she has grown to appreciate all genres. This is what finally led her to become a DJ. Working in a record store for 5 years and going to various rave parties and concerts, she began to see that many people weren’t and aren’t as open to different types of music as she is. DJing is her way to introduce people to new music. She really loves nothing more than when someone genuinely asks, “What song is this? I love itâ€. She is a master at reading crowds and rocking parties.
Sinamin began spinning records in 2001. With a growing love for drum and bass she learned to mix, and within a year she started getting booked for gigs. However not long after, the party scene in Saint Louis began to slowly deteriorate and there weren’t many gigs available. So Sinamin went back to the drawing board to figure out a new plan of action. Practicing for hours on end, a few years went by, and finally she was ready to try something new. Thanks to the recommendation of a friend, she re-emerged as a hip hop/top40/rock/funk/electronic/reggae and everything in between DJ.
In 2006, Sinamin was a finalist in the Riverfront Times “Ultra Music Festival†contest. She was the only hip hop DJ in the finals, and one of 2 females. She dropped a mixtape of old school jams entitled “Hit it from the Back Vol. 1â€, and a month later she was invited to play at Saint Louis’ most legendary hip hop night “The Hi Pointe Caféâ€, alongside Saint Louis legend Charlie Chan Soprano. This gig more than any other, helped her gain respect among her peers and Saint Louis hip hop heads alike. She served as a resident until the Hi Pointe closed its doors in August of 2006. Also during 2006, she played regularly at Delmar Lounge, MP O’Reillys, Mercury, Upstairs Lounge, Kitchen K, and The Red Sea. The first female to play mainstream music at many of these places, she was invited to play at the Saint Louis Cardinals party spot, Al Hraboskys. A member of Saint Louis Red Bull Music Lab, Sinamin began producing music, and released a song featuring 3 of Saint Louis top unsigned rappers: Finsta, Egypt, and Scooby. She also opened a show for national recording artist Rihanna at Saint Louis University, and spun records alongside DJ Stan Da Man at the annual Taste of St. Louis fair.
In 2007, Sinamin stepped her game up and entered Majic (KMJM) 104.9’s Old School Mix Master Classic. The only female out of 16 entries, she made it to the finals and very much impressed all of the judges with her music selection and mixing skills. Consequently she was invited to guest DJ on “The BT Express†show on Majic 104.9. In April of 2007, she began DJing on “Mixphoria†on KSLZ107.7, and was also invited to be a part of the Core DJs Worldwide. Teaming up with Ebony Eyez, Sinamin released “Ladies of the Lou, The Mixtape, Vol. 1†to rave reviews. Throughout this year she continued to serve a residency at Delmar Lounge, and picked up a few more shows at Xes Lounge, Copia, Atomic Cowboy, Throttle, and Novaks. She was also the featured DJ at the “Fight Night Party†at Bar Italia, to which the owner commented, “This is the most people we’ve ever had here. I need you to DJ every night.â€
2007 brought DJ Sinamin to a larger audience, not only was she playing in clubs all over Saint Louis, and dropping mixtapes, she was also featured on five radio stations in the city; KMJM Majic 104.9, KSLZ Z107.7, 100.3 The Beat HD2, KSLZ Z107.7 HD2, and riverfrontradio.com.
Now in 2008 Sinamin helped launch Xes Lounge (recently voted as Best Nightclub in the Riverfront Times) to the forefront of St. Louis night life. She was the resident for 7 months at Xes on their biggest night, Sexy Saturdays. April marks one year of mixing on radio, and August will mark 2 years of DJing at the loops late night hot spot, Delmar Lounge. She was recently invited to be a member of Saint Louis’ elite DJ crew the Derrty DJs. Being the only female in the crew, she has her work cut out for her. She is a force to be reckoned with. It won’t be long before Saint Louis’ best kept secret is no longer on the hush.
Be sure to check her out every Tuesday and some Fridays at Delmar Lounge, as well as Mondays at 609 for Mondays Madness. You can also hear her Monday through Friday on 100.3 The Beat's Big Beat Breakfast Mix, and Saturday Nights alongside T-Rell for the Saturday Soundtrack to the Streets.
