My Interests

Writing (words, lyrics, correspondence, etc.), reading (sci-fi- but only the good stuff), driving and playing with my kids.

I'd like to meet:

Peter Murphy, Nick Cave, Tool, Tom Waits, Mike Ness, anyone from U2 although Adam Clayton would be amazing (bass players rule - because without a great rhythm section those guitar players and singers wouldn't be able to sound and look so good)!

Music:

I like it all except rap influenced stuff. The only rap-rock I could sink my teeth into was RATM and they're toast.Favourites include everthing from Peter Murphy and Nick Cave to Link Wray and Los Straitjackets to Los Lobos to The The to David Baerwarld to Placebo to the Deftones to Max Webster to Kings of Leon to Tito & the Tarantulas to the Drive-By Truckers and more.Who Rules... Social Distortion, Tool and Paul Westerberg and the Replacements!!!!I've been lyricist for MANY indie bands in which I've played bass. Need a lyric, let me know.I play in a band called the Eradicators doing a range of instrumental music in the surf/rock/twang/thunder/punk/garage/spaghetti-western vein. MP3s to follow.

Movies:

True Romance, Holy Grail,

Television:

Six Feet Under, Dead Like Me, Carnivale! I HATE reality TV shows.

Books:

Anything by Neal Asher, Steven Erikson, Guy Gavriel Kay, Christopher Moore or Tad Williams. The Gap and Thomas Covenant series by Stephen R. Donaldson. Virtually anything by David Brin although the Uplift series is phenomenal. The Hyperion books by Dan Simmons. Abarat, Weaveworld and more by Clive Barker. The Species Imperative books by Julie Czerneda.

Heroes:

None especially. I've met too many people I've admired through work and found out that a lot of them are a little too self-absorbed - particularly bands with their first breaks and athletes. Although Keith Richards and John Mellencamp stand out as being some of the nicest, most interesting people I've ever had the pleasure of talking with. Who do I admire? My wife for putting up with me and supporting my music (and bass collection), my kids for providing me endless joy and reasons to keep on doing what I do and a number of people that I work with for being the kind that make my time there fun. Who else would I want to meet and talk with - Gary Oldman, Stephen King, anyone from U2 (Adam, sell me one of your old basses!!!!), Stephen R. Donaldson and David Brin.

My Blog
