While the South has kicked down the door and had a strong foothold on Hip-Hops overall direction, there is still fresh talent brewing in the region. Perion is a multi-talented musician who has been grinding behind the scenes for over 17 years, and he is ready to let the world know his name. As summer approaches, Perion is returning to the spotlight with "Way I Be Leanin", the third single from Juvenile's Reality Check album, which features Paul Wall, Mike Jones, Skip and Wacko. He also has tracks coming up with Fat Al, G.T.M., Plies, Trick Daddy and some more exclusives artists to be announced soon.
Perion knew he wanted to make music his life at an early age. He won high school talent shows with his beatboxing and rhyming skills, and his earliest influences ranged from LL Cool J to Run DMC, Kool G Rap, Geto Boys, Spice 1, NWA, and Too Short. He also had a natural talent for singing, but he spent more energy creating music than performing. "I love producing first," he explains. I like developing artists and creating different sounds. I can rap, I just dont put as much time and effort behind it as I do producing. Singing - I grew up in church doing and thats part of my family. Everybody in my family sings."
He networked and made his name known throughout Florida circles, and Perion's first big shot came with Roy Jones Jr's Body Head Entertainment. His track with Roy, "That Was Then" featuring Dave Hollister, landed him in rotation on BETs 106 & Park and Rap City. He also worked the likes of Scarface, Mystikal, Mike Jones, Lil Flip, Petey Pablo, Pastor Troy, Fiend, and Lil Troy. While he's no longer with Roy's company, he brought some valuable knowledge with him. "The experience was cool, I learned a lot", he says. "I met a lot of people that were beneficial to me, made a lot of good connections". "Roy is a cool person to work with".
Hometown respect and support is very important to Perion. He is known throughout Pensacola for producing and doing radio intros for DJs. With his own company, Lumbajack Productions, he is looking to shatter expectations and bring local talent up with him. This Fall people can look for the Jack City mixtape to hit the streets. "I love making music, and I love having fun when I do it", he beams. "I want to get artists from surrounding areas and get them exposure". "Since it was hard for me to get in, I like working with underdogs that people dont believe in, and I like to make them prove people wrong".
For Perion, the road to making it this far has been long and full of hard work. He's in tune with his spiritual side and realizes that a force much greater than him is responsible for getting him here. "First and foremost I love God - Hes ..1 in everything I do whether its producing, writing or rapping. I want to show people that you can love God, be saved and go hard in this game without letting the game change you. I want it to be known now how I feel about my God before I win an award!'
Focused, determined, and humble, Perion is ready to play his role in Floridas musical resurgence and the world abroad.
