Just bought Sirius Satellite radio for my car and home. Holy shit! There's always a great song playing. And now that Howard is broadcasting, I can't get enough.I'm really into movie soundtracks. Anything from Akira Ifukube's Japanese Monster movies I can get my hands on. Ennio Morricone is a god. Bands on my iPod? TV on the Radio, M. Ward (Post War), Silversun Pickups, WE ARE SCIENTISTS, The Beatles, Hard-Fi, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Cliff, The Defrockers, Black Sabbath, Arctic Monkeys, Badly Drawn Boy, The Asylum Street Spankers, The Doors, Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Clapton, Beastie Boys, Wu-Tang Clan, The Beta Band, Zap Mama, Pink Floyd, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Death Cab for Cutie, A Perfect Circle, Decemberists, Bare Naked Ladies, Marilyn Manson, Placebo, Dropkick Murphys, Flight of the Conchords, Flaming Lips, Pearl Jam, Franz Ferdinand, Green Day, The Deftones, Guns N' fuckin' Roses, The Killers, Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, At The Drive-In, Tammi Sutton, Winslow, BNL, Modest Mouse, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Elvis Presley, The Rentals, Sparta, Tom Waits, Weezer, The White Stripes, Wilco.I'm always looking for new music and hunting for the most obscure soundtracks I can get my hands on.
Okay, here we go: (and I won't even number these, because then I have to actually RATE these, but here are my top ten movies TODAY, DECEMBER 17, 2005 - they'll change next week!)- RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (best action film of all time - I'm VERY nostalgic)- DEEP RED (everyone crows about Suspiria, but if I could only have one Argento film, this is it. But shit man, BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMMAGE rocks)- THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (again, the nostalgia kicks in. The first glimpse of the giant AT-AT walkers on Hoth still kills me)- THE PSYCHIC (I just ripped my 12 year old VHS tape to DVD - great mystery, terrific execution, and Jennifer O;Neill is smokin' hot! I couldn't live with only one Fulci film. This and THE BEYOND are the two I'd have to have)- UNDERGROUND (Incredible. Unbelievable. That's all you're getting 'cause I refuse to give anything away! Emir Kusturica is one of my favorite directors)- RAISING ARIZONA (this is the best of the comedies, right along with PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES, ANIMAL HOUSE and THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS)- AGUIRRE, THE WRATH OF GOD (the "be-all, end-all of jungle movies. This one hits me on so many levels, I can barely even describe how much it works for me)- APOCALYPSE NOW (or is that, Apocalypse Wow? I can't believe Coppola shot this - oh, and I don't like the newer "Redux" version)- RESERVOIR DOGS (Pulp has better moments, but from beginning to end, I with no chicks? Damn.)- KING KONG (one of the first movies I ever saw. And STILL in my top ten of all time. This one never changes. The sheer sense of adventure this film inspires is terrific)- DR. BUTCHER, M.D. (it's WAY more cheesy than the title suggests, tons of bad acting, great nudity and terrific zombies grue - what a great picture! - Simply love it.)- A BOY AND HIS DOG (I love post-apocalyptic flicks, this and MAD MAX are my faves)- THE HITCHER (holy shit, seen this one in awhile? The helicopter stuff blows me away)- WIPEOUT! (aka THE BOSS) Henty Silva in his ass-kicking prime. My favorite mafia picture ever. Did I mention that this among the best movies ever made?- BLACK CHRISTMAS (I had to put a slasher in here, but next week, it will be HALLOWEEN next week)- THE GREAT SILENCE (Klaus Kinski as a bounty hunter. In the SNOW. Fucking mind-blowing spaghetti western. Three cheers for Sergio Corbucci!)- BATTLE ROYALE (there is a reason this will never been seen in America. And for good reason. But I'll be damned if an 80 year old director can't still pack a whallop)- THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY (Probably the best directed movie ever, to me it's just sheer genius. If this comes on television, I don't move for three hours)- PERSONA (nothing happens for so long, and then I can't believe how much I've been affected by what hasn't happened. This and BLOW UP are my two favorite "nothing" pictures. I can talk about this one for hours.)- COFFY (my favorite revenge film ever - this is sheer bliss for me. I could watch it every single day. Jack Hill is the most underrated director in the history of cinema)- THE KILLING (Goddamn. And in black and white, too)- PAN'S LABYRINTH (Maybe the best fairy tale ever committed to film)- SINGING IN THE RAIN (if I am ever in a shitty mood, which ain't very often, this movie keeps me smiling. Along with CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY)- EL MARIACHI (take nothing, make something - not the best movie, but as far as inspiration goes, this is all I ever need to get my ass motivated to pick up my camera)- FIGHT CLUB (more often than not, Fincher is style over substance, but for him to be able to pull off this translation of such a fantastic book, my hat is off. I really dig the soundtrack)- ENTER THE DRAGON (Lee at his baddest, John Saxon at his coolest, and Jim Kelly being his cool-ass self, I could watch the last 20 minutes every day)- THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (Tobe shows nothing and still hits you with everything. The best example of a horror movie needing ZERO gore to illicit the hardest punch to the gut)- THE UNTOLD STORY (They don't make 'em like this anymore. As a matter of fact, they never made 'em like this before. Mean, dirty, gets under your skin, and I can't get it out of my head. Hong Kong in the 80s? Man, they did it better than anyone) This is the complete opposite end of the spectrum from Chainsaw...Okay, I tried. I can't limit myself to just ten! If my fingers weren't hurting, I could go on and on, but you asked for a list, not a novel... I know there are some that are slipping my mind right now...
You know, I don't really watch a whole helluva lot of television. Not that I don't like it, I just don't have time. If I've got a moment, I'm watching a movie.Except of course for SOUTH PARK. I don't miss an episode. Oh, and LOST. It's the first show I've been painfully addicted to since TWIN PEAKS back in the day. Parker and Stone are sharper than ever. I'm absolutely hooked on ENTOURAGE.img src="http://www.twinpeaks.org/archives/images/jpgs/formicula _table.jpg"
