What can be said about me, Taunya “Denise Tea” Said. I am a former singer who decided mainly to focus on music production. My profession lies within producing all types of (BACKGROUND) music for Plays, Commercials, television and Movie scores. I started at a very early age singing with my 2 older brothers, forced to live the dream of my father. As I became older I grasped the love for music realizing this is what I really wanted to do with my life. Not knowing what God had in store for me, I never thought this dream was not meant for me. From the tender age 7 (dressed as a boy to fit in with my brothers) we performed talent show after talent show. As we became older the decision was up to us and we decided to disperse and do the teenage thing – hang out and just have fun. It was then, in high school after learning that I could REALLY sing, I was asked to perform at the school talent show – nervous as hell, I agreed to do so, not knowing what I was getting myself into. Surprisingly enough, it went very well, giving the confidence I needed to pursue this newly found dream, but it wasn’t until I auditioned for “Hal Jackson’s Talented Teens” that I knew that this was it for me. After making the audition, I competed and won “Miss Promoter” and finished in the top 5 in the nationals. I was also a contestant in the “Miss Black America” Pageant. Then I became more involved with bands, then came the studio sessions. Once I started doing studio sessions, I was too beside myself, you couldn’t tell me anything, all I knew was I was going to be a “STAR”.PROJECT THAT I WAS FEATURED ON: Featured vocalist for the “Northeast Groovers” Featured vocalist for the 1999 Album “The Mike Stevens Project”- Half Past Autumn Featured vocalist for the 2004 album “India” produced by Dawoud Said Jack the Rapper – ATL, GA B.E.T. Company Party National Cathedral D.C,’s River Fest The legendary “Apollo” Harlem NY As well as numerous showcases and clubs between the Washington, DC, Philadelphia and New York.After years of continuous commitment and studio sessions, things seem to stand still and progress was slow. The people that I dealt with became more and more flaky, I’m sure you ALL can relate, but I never stopped. I’ve worked at NIGHT FLIGHT STUDIOS, AMBIENT STUDIOS, OMEGA STUDIOS, IVORY PRODUCTION STUDIO, AVOLON STUDIO, AND CENTRAL STODIOS. Frustrated as hell, after the death of an artist I admired, I decided to take the advice of a close friend, my Ex-Husband, Dawoud Said- to start doing things on my own, instead of depending on others. So, I did. Investing in equipment and programs taking the initiative to learn on my own, with periodic questions for Dawoud, I now produce my own material. Although I do not concentrate on singing anymore, my newly found LOVE is producing for others. MAINLY…… producing (BACKGROUND) music for Plays, Commercials, television and movie scores.In 2005, I stumbled across an audition for a Play called “Walk Like A Man” sounds interesting enough, so I passed the info to a friend who instantly became a cast member. I visited the play to check it out and to my surprise I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it lacked music production, so I found this to be an opportunity to present my MATERIAL to Ms. Laurinda Brown, writer of Walk Like A Man”. The rest remains to be scene. After that other opportunities came about, like indie films that needed music production and scores. So again, I found a new love.RECENT PROJECTS: -Walk Like A man “The Play” by Laurinda Brown -Walk Like A Man, The Play “Soundtrack by Denise Tea” - “Stare” Horror movie – Indie Film (Sundance film festival) - “Sistah Boo” 70’s Film – Indie Film (Sundance film festival)OTHERS PRODUCTIONS IN THE WORKSMy style of production is very smooth, retro R&B with a splash of Pop. I use life experiences to create, it tells a meaningful story to pull you into the reality of life. My hooks are easy to grasp and very commercialized. As a writer, I am prepared to take on all who seem to think lyrics don’t mean much today in R&B. As a writer, I want to write about those thing people only think about. A good song is more than just a phat beat.
