About Me

Q-Boro Books, headquartered in Queens, NY, was launched in 2004. And within one year we became one of the nation's fastest growing independent trade publishers of African American fiction. In early 2006 we entered into an imprint deal with Urban Books, a deal which will undoubtedly further our momentum for years to come and allow us to compete on the same level with many of the major publishing houses in the country. Our success can be attributed to our passion, hard work, and diligence to be the best, as well as our niche focus to publishing titles that range in more than one subject matter within the African American genre. The borough of Queens (hence our name Q-Boro) is unique in its urban / suburban diversity and with the books that we publish you will see that same sense of diversity in the mix of stories that reflect the different aspects of the African American lifestyle. Through reliance on God, knowledge, persistence, quality, and hard work, Q-Boro Books will be to the publishing world what Def Jam is to the music world.
“Everything starts in seed form and then it grows. That is definitely the case, according to President and founder Mark Anthony, whose career in publishing dates back to 1998 when he self-published his first novel.
“In my office on my wall I keep a laminated copy of the first book that I self published back in 1998. The quality of the writing was top notch, but the production of the book was horrible! I had a cheesy black and white cover on the book, the glue on the spine wasn't thick enough to hold the book together and it fell apart when you flipped the pages to read the story! My barcode was photocopied and couldn't be scanned at the registers in bookstores, and I had no distribution whatsoever, but I still managed to sell 4,000 copies out of the trunk of my car. And back then was also when I formed relationships with people like Carl Weber, my current partner. Little did I know back then that all of my failures, mistakes, and minor successes were giving me experience and setting me up to run Q-Boro Books. Back in 1998 I was just planting the seeds and now as they say... 'The rest is history.'
We want to thank you for your interest in our books and for your support and we assure you that our commitment to publishing quality fiction that the readers want to read will never waiver.
