Bernard Goovaerts

About Me

Bernard Goovaerts studied soundrecording at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, The Netherlands. During this period he studied jazz piano with Rob van Bavel. After this he studied piano with Bert van den Brink and Michiel Borstlap at the School of the Arts in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Now he mainly works for Joop van den Ende Theatre Productions, at this moment for the show "Tarzan" at the Circus Theatre in Scheveningen, The Hague, 8 shows a week, from Tuesdays to Sundays. Occasionally there's some jazzconcert in between, but these concerts are very often on private parties and not open to the public. For Bernard's paintings, see www.myspace.com/bernardgoovaerts.

Influences: Bernard Goovaerts is very much influenced by pianists like Oscar Peterson, Monty Alexander and Herbie Hancock. Those styles might be heard in his playing. His inspirations however are coming from a lot of different sources, from musicians and bands like Bootsy Collins (showing how to play "on the one"!), Sting, Diana Krall, Leonard Bernstein, Tribal Tech, Al Jarreau, Johnny 'guitar' Watson, Ray Brown, Ed Thigpen, Vladimir Horowitz.
