Amy's Sister

I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I used to think it was a really cool idea to raise my fists to the heavens and rail at the gods. Turns out, I just tripped over a park bench when I tried. Not quite the coolest thing I've ever done. Oh well, at least the attempt was made.

My brain is in retreat.

MTV and KROQ, you have succeeded in raping the brains of many people, but you will not have my purity.

I will fight back with interesting music and political messages and uncouth songs that took some thought to pull off.

Ska will always be cool, no matter what Gwen Stefani is doing now.

Punk will never be for cutesy girls in spaghetti strap shirts, no matter what Ashlee Simpson says.

Emo will always be for pussies, but maybe people will realize that being a pussy holds no shame.

My Interests

Reading, Politics, Music, History, Surfing, Constructive Counterculture, Cultural liberalism, Political Conservativism

I'd like to meet:

Met him. He's mine. Hail Eris!

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Music:

Punk, rockabilly, ska, country, metal, rock, classic rock, classical, swing, jazz, doo-wop, folk. Very limited tastes, as you can see.

Movies:

Snatch, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrells, Pan's Labrynth, Blade Runner, Children of Men, The Fountain, The Good Shepherd (minus Angelina Jolie...), This Is Spinal Tap (It goes to 11!), Spellbound, The Big Lebowski, l'Auberge Espagnol, Reservoir Dogs, American Splendor, I Hell, just about anything that doesn't suck... or if it does suck, it has to be comfortable with sucking.

Television:

TV sucks. It's the opiate of humanity. I haven't had a tv for more than movie watching in over two months, and its awesome. I do miss Family Guy, though.

I have to admit my undying love of House and Scrubs. Something about jerks in hospitals....

Books:

The Dark Tower books, The Dune books, Catch-22, God Knows, We, 1984, Animal Farm, Flatland, Ender's Game, Speaker for The Dead, Children of the Mind, Ender's Shadow, Anything at all by Morgan Llewellyn, The Bible, The First Man In Rome, The Grass Crown.
History, Sci-fi, Fantasy, Historical Fiction, I like escapism in literature. I've also begun reading an author named David Sedaris. I totally blame Chris for this, but Sedaris is damn hilarious. I'm also trying to get through The Golden Bough and Serpent and Shaman: A Jungian Look At Mythology. House of Leaves. Fuck me, that's a great book.

Heroes:

The Goddess Eris, My Grandparents, Ender and Peter Wiggin, Roland of Gilead, Randall Flagg, Mordred (in any incarnation)

To Stare At What Is Lost

The following conversation depressed me.  I understand it, but it makes me sad.  How many Americans feel this way?  How many Americans will it take to change their minds?  Can we c...

Shaken, Not Stirred

Are they serious?  Are we in any kind of good conscience wasting time worrying about NFL players' pensions while there are soldiers dying every fucking day in Iraq?  There doesn't need to be...

Show me a government...

Show me a government willing to throw sick and dying people in jail rather than allow a non-patentable herb to infringe upon the profits of corporate lobbyists, and I'll show you a government capable ...

Father Knows Best State

It'd be nice to have a governmental system that we're not suspicious of. Father Knows Best wouldn't be such a bad idea if Father wasn't such a dickhead, no? I'd like to not constantly look over my sho...

This is a repost of a bulletin by Christopher Largen.  If I knew how to html linky his myspace name, I would.  As is, I'll comment this blog with his Space. Enjoy... or at least think... Peo...

Capitalist Pigs Who Don't Hate Gays And Smoke Weed

That's right... I'm culturally liberal, politically conservative, and a capitalist pig, to boot. Do no harm, and turn a profit.  You know why I want marijuana legalized?  So they can turn it...

Shorts (For Allie Cat, But Wanted To Post Them Here, Too)

There's a sticker on my desk, he's a little lego Jesus head.  He smiles at me benevolently, but is it blindly, maybe dead?  It's only long hair, a crown of thorns and a little bearded grin.&...
