DESIRE IS GREATER THAN NEED

About Me

hahaha 500 words or less. right. fiercely independent bike messenger with punk/goth/industrial roots, growing increasingly dissatisfied with city life. bicycle-obsessed omnivore with a penchant for decay{ing|ed} objects and cast iron kitchen paraphenalia. unflappable optimist consumed by cynicism and the will to grow up to be a cantankerous old man. the voice of reason, a creature of habit, a joyful recluse. bringer of syrupy breakfast delights, consumer of delectable dairy goodness. a self-described outgoing person who rarely goes out. someday, ill be a small-scale organic farmer, living off the grid inthe middle of nowhere in some sort of co-op with a bunch of like-minded friends. oh yeah, and im going to live to be at least 100. anything less is totally unacceptable. gah. enough of that.

Music:

good lord. alien sex fiend, ambient noise, amebix, antisect, apparat organ quartet, asschapel, at the gates, bad brains, barrelhouse piano, bauhaus, beastie boys, big black, bill monroe, birthday party, bjork, black metal, bluegrass, boban markovic, calliope, christian death, chumbawamba, cocteau twins, conflict, crass (band and label), current 93, darkthrone, death cult, death in june, devo, discharge, doc watson, dock boggs, droning noises, earth, erase errata, fanfare ciocarlia, fields of the nephilim, flux of pink indians, freakwater, frostbite, fuzzbox, gamelan, gang of our, germs, gogol bordello, goth, hammers of misfortune, hurdy-gurdys, iron maiden, jamc, joy division, kocani orkestar, kukl, love and rockets, lustmord, manu chao, march violets, mastodon, the melvins, minutemen, mission of burma, mum, neubauten, nomeansno, nurse with wound, oi polloi, old country, opeth, organum, pipe organs, play dead, red lorry yellow lorry, rudimentary peni, run dmc, sex gang children, shellac, siouxsie, sisters of mercy, skeletal family, slayer, southern death cult, spk, stanley brothers, swans (pre-jarboe), sunn 0)))), szeki kurva, THE EX, the creatures, the cult, the cure, the epoxies, the fucking champs, the funerals, the mission uk, the pixies, the slits, the sugarcubes, the wake (both of them), theatre of hate, tones on tail, toy dolls, uk decay, under two flags, virgin prunes, willie nelson, x, x-ray spex, xmal deutschland, zounds, zu ... where to begin? where to end? i like more types of music than i can shake a stick at, and going to record stores is a horribly overwhelming ordeal for me. i usually end up walking out without buying anything, because the level of decision-making required is more than i can handle.

Movies:

movies? i dont watch that many. come make me watch more. i like movies that leave you disoriented at the end, or where everyone loses. les triplettes de belleville! oh, and im a sucker for "breakfast at tiffany's" or "rosemary's baby". double feature? hmm.

Television:

ive never owned one, cause i dont watch it that much, or i fear that id watch it too much if i did. im good with the simpsons, some law & order, and happy to finally get decent cycling coverage in the states. sometimes i like to watch cops and laugh at what an effective tool it probably is for convincing people that the police always get their man.

Books:

mostly non-fiction. lots of alternative construction, rural living, organic farming, folk history lately. some fiction. zola "the belly of paris" & "the dream", laxness "independent people", tully "beggars of life", jack black "you cant win", andre breton "nadja", cocteau "les enfants terribles", anthony bourdin "les halles cookbook", fergus henderson "the whole beast" and the latest issue of cometbus. nikolai gogol! ambrose bierce! j. s. lefanu! flaubert "bouvard and pecuchet", m. r. james! turgenev! cant! stop! reading!

Heroes:

im not really sure i have any. to some degree, i admire anyone who truly just *is* who they are, in a sea of people desperately *trying* to be themselves, or someone else, or "unique".
