In August 2005 Autumn Eve released Songs Like Letters, a haunting song cycle weaving forlorn vocals with swirling guitars that quickly established them as a band to watch in eastern Canada's flowering independent music scene. Recorded anywhere from small Toronto studios to their own bedrooms and basements, it has the tremulous, hatchling-like sound of a band bursting with creativity and stretching their wings for the first time. This gently melodic, phonically cohesive set of songs finds its anchor in the hushed poetic lyrics of singer Matt Barbeau. If Closer and Words I Wish I Could Say play like letters to lost friends, This Autumn Evening and From Sunrise to Sunset offer elegies to the fleeting moments that make up a lifetime.
Following a string of successful shows in support of Songs Like Letters and boasting a vibrant, growing fanbase, Autumn Eve has headed back to the studio and renewed their successful partnership with audio guru Dan Reid. The first single from these sessions, Monsters, is darker and fuller than previous offerings, but still packs the band's trademark melodic sensibilites. Monsters is available as a free download and will be featured on the forthcoming EP which they'll be backing up with a string of tour dates over the summer of 2006.
